Definitely agree with this. If you go after a dude who hit someone with their head down cleanly, instigators should be called for sure. A little more leeway penalty-wise if the hit was dirty.

"Good Morning: if NYR want to acquire Patrick Kane and have him count against their cap on Wednesday (not today), they can acquire him after 5pm (ET). Things continue to be put in motion behind the scenes (approval, equipment, logistics). We'll see when it happens" EF tweet today.

they might as well just wait until deadline day since we all know he's not going to accept going anywhere else.

Ya, I was listening to both the Chris Johnston podcast and the 32 Thoughts pod and both said if a deal is going to happen it wont be announced until Weds but both seem to think the deal is already in place. Due to cap reasons, they cant announce anything until tomorrow.

I think a Miller suspension is also holding it up a bit. But lets be serious, what's a better debut situation, In Philly on Wednesday, or in NY on Thursday?

Kane has also held the Rangers hostage, imagine if he changed his mind right and didn't accept a trade there?

    Suspensions dont affect the cap.

But they are running with 12F, 6D, 2G right now, so a suspension would either have them playing with 1 less player, or needing to call one up for the suspension time.

And Miller would still count against the cap while suspended right/?

I think the Rangers have been mostly running a roster with few extra skaters all season to bank as much cap as they can for the stretch run. If they have to call up Schneider or Hajek to replace a suspended Miller, that affects their cap.

That was what I meant when I said suspensions dont affect the cap. They "could" call someone up or they could just run one player short.

they are eight points above the Isles with three games in hand, I don't think Drury is in a rush to make it happen. IMO waiting until deadline day puts Chicago in the hot seat when they are officially at the point of get something for him or lose him for nothing in the summer hence reducing the price the most possible.

No one is putting Chicago on the hot seat. The deal is already done. They are waiting for the trade call until the Rangers have the cap space. Today after 5 we should have an announcement.

2023 Chris Drury summer wish list in order of importance IMO:

    1) K'Andre Miller long term, this is Drury's one shot to do what Nashville did with Josi on his first long term deal and sign him "undervalue." If you give him a bridge, the next contract will be astronomical. Now is the time to attempt to get him to sign an eight year max deal for 5-6 mil per year before he is asking for 8 plus per year which he might already do after crossing the 40-point plateau. Let Mikkola walk as much as it would be nice for him to stay and promote Matthew Robertson.

    2) Lafreniere two-year bridge deal.

    2) Do not let Motte get away again. You brought him on twice for a reason, he fits in well and he's one of the few truly fleet footed forwards you'd have.

    3) Promote Domingue as permanent NHL backup this year whether he's truly capable or not since he's already signed.

    4) Let Kane and Tarasenko walk.

    5) Pipe dream scenario, trade Panarin. It will not happen because the contract is albatross but that's now two of three postseasons where he provided two measly points. If there is any realistic way to offload that salary entering age 32 season do it. In two years you are going to be paying Igor a Bobrovsky contract so you might as well start seeking ways to create space to make it a reality.

    6) Another pipe dream, trade Goodrow, promote Othmann.

NYR is in a state of peril, things went from looking peachy for years to come with a long contention window to can this core really get it done.
