I remember hockeystreams.com but I guess I forgot about it quickly.

How's the quality? Gamecenter does up to 3000 kbps.

Btw, I repped for the hotshield help and the gamecenter help.

yeah I'd like to hear more about these guys too...if they're as good as they promise they're definitely preferable to Gamecenter because they're cheaper and they don't have the stupid blackout rules. I've been using SopCast quite successfully so far but the quality is not great (best they usually have is 600 kbps and that's a gross exaggeration). I would happily pay for a quality HD stream but there doesn't appear to be any kind of trial

Our streams are all broadcasted in a 640x480 resolution unless otherwise noted. The resolution will never be less. However, On occasion you will find 720p HD streams with a resolution of 1280x720.
so high quality SD is the norm with occasional HD streams

If hotshield works, then I think that plus Gamecenter FTW.

The HD on NHL.com is fabulous.

I did create an account on hockeystreams.com as well to check it out but I think it is rarely HD.

This is the first I've heard of hockeystreams.com, does it cost anything to register?

The HD thing is something that is being started this year. It's not the HD that you expect form cable TV though it's 720p but it's compressed so there are some artifacts - kind of like if you watch a movie compressed with divix.

They are supposed to be having more and more HD as the year goes by. The quality it far better than the free justin tv type feeds. It never buffers for me.

It is cheaper, it's $99/year and by year it's 365 days. You can Freeze you account if you are not using it for more than 7 days like in the summer or if you go on vacation so you get about 1.5 hockey seasons for $99.

You can watch the games archived if you missed them, and they have methods of playing the game on your xbox/ps3 but I have not tried that. They also have other shows here and there; some AHL, some UFC, Olympics, TSN season preview, etc.

decided to try this for a month, so far so good

    pros:
-all the games including games that have already been played should you miss one
-no streams getting shutdown mid-game for copywrong reasons
    -quality is acceptable to good
-no hanging or buffering, streams smoothly
-can choose to play in silverlight player or play directly via url in your player of choice

    cons:
-the quality is not as advertised, I was led to believe this would be pristine SD or even some compressed HD, its not. Its better than most free streams but not by much (some streams are better than others)
-their interface is kinda wonky to get used to, once you figure it out its OK but its not very intuitive what is what.

been trying it out for a week now, pretty good for the most part...tonight ALL the streams are jacked though, they freeze, buffer constantly when they do play or sometimes just dont play at all...very disappointing, it was looking promising otherwise

I've been using it that past few days as well, and like has been said. It's better than free streams, and cheaper than gamecenter. But game center is definitely better quality. And hockey streams has been iffy like mcgoo is saying here. Altogether though I don't think I'll continue to use this.

    I bought Gamecenter.

    Iffy connections for sure!!

IP spoofing is in full effect so it is hard to say if it is that, can anybody else offer any experiences?

Yesterday's Leafs/Sens and COB games were not well connected, if at all.

hmmm, I'm inclined to believe its implementation of this more than anything, I think a lot of the providers who haven't been doing online streaming for 1000s of users and have jumped into it have not planned properly for how best to accomplish it. So unfortunately everyone in the chain is suspect, the provider of the content for not architecting their delivery model properly down to the ISPs who are not equipped to handle the bandwidth of the new 'stream-everything' internet (unfortunately we want to watch hockey games live and they all play during primetime, the heaviest load of the day

Same. And channelsurfing.net. And on occasion, justin.tv

I wouldn't even bother with the IP spoofing to be honest. If they think you're doing it they'll probably continue to take your money and cancel your service or something.

When I signed up for MLB.tv in the summer it was real good. The quality was amazing. The best part was that I could download an app for free on my Playstation3 that would allow me to stream it through the system and on to my plasma tv. Maybe there's something like that for NHL too? Just a thought.
