I remember there was a very knowledgeable women on the threads for awhile...and I think she ended up leaving due to a thread about Patrick Kane and his rape case....
I'm only here for the chicks.
When I first seen this thread I thought it was a woman advice thread ... lol ... makes a good idea ... i seen a similar thread on another hockey forum :P ... i kept posting in there about ten years ago
On a serious note here for a minute.
I believe that many women who may contribute to these boards don’t “out” themselves as being female for fear that their opinions would be instantly discredited by the majority of members.
Avatars are another subject that saw countless threads/arguments. Around 2011/2012, it was so bad that dobber himself requested that the community tone it down in that regard. Big time. It took some battles and bans and such but eventually it became a non issue. Slowly, the number of “racy avatars” have climbed again. Of course, I’m sure some who display those types of avatars currently likely weren’t around back then.
I’d like to correct myself in the use of the word “majority”. “Some” is more what I meant to say.
I think that there is hesitation by women to "out" themselves. I wish it wasn't so because I've been treated with nothing but respect since coming out here but I have to admit that I felt that I had to somewhat establish myself on the forums first before coming forward.
That had nothing to do with anyone or anything that happened on the forums but more so from life experience where my opinion and hockey knowledge has been minimized while joining in conversations about hockey with men.
That's why being on a hockey forum levels the playing field because it's anonymous.
A lot of men still feel that a woman's interest in hockey extends only to liking a team because she likes the colour of the uniforms or thinks player X is hot. Or the other extreme where men feel intimidated when a woman knows as much or even more. I've experienced both in real life.
Luckily that has never happen here.
