    Exclamation " Hollywood" Kovalchuck

This has been obvious for months...

Sources confirm the Los Angeles Kings are ready to make a "substantial offer" to Ilya Kovalchuk.
Kovalchuk would be a jewel in LA, a team that can use a jolt. While undergoing a successful season, they lacked the true goal scorer needed to put them over the edge. The Kings tried to acquire his rights over the draft however New Jersey remains in the bidding war for the Russian sniper.

Kovy to the Kings and Bernier on the doorstep means ALL the Kings games could very soon be a MUST WATCH!!!

I am excited if they land Kovy. They should have room with Fro and Modin coming off and just a little more tweaking. As long as they dont sink themselves with his deal the Kings should be in line to make a run in the short term with Smyth and Handzus for the next couple of seasons. They just have to be smart and keep the talented young core they have stockpiled. I cant imagine how they will be able to sign Jack Johnson long term if they land Kovy for instance. Doughty will definitely get his money and they have Scuderi and Greene locked up. The Current NHL means a cap manager is just as important as a talent evaluater so the Kings have some work ahead of them.

    As debated in another thread:

    http://www.dobberhockey.com/index.ph...ad.php&t=70244

The Kings should have enough cap money to pay Kovy a goodly sum and still have cash left over to sign Doughty and Johnson.

Whether they do it or not is the next question....

I just traded for Kovalchuk with this dream scenario in mind. Playing with Kopitar, I can't imagine anything less than 50 goals for many years to come. Makes sense for both sides, and they have the space to do it. He is young enough to warrant a 10 year deal, and the Kings are in the perfect situation to do it.

Kovalchuk to LA just makes too much sense.

The only reason it might not happen is if other teams get into a bidding war. Lombardi is not the kind of guy to get into a bidding war. If Kovy ends up getting offered more than $8 to $8.5 million somewhere that he likes just as much, I could see this not happening.

Besides the obvious, Kings are my next fav team so I'd love Kovy there and also as a Kopi owner I'd love it and I think they can definitely work out a deal that tops out at $8mil (cap hit) and still afford to sign Doughty and Johnson.

The only thing is how many times does the trade or UFA signing that makes too much sense not end up happening lol

Bingo Fungchen! I am hoping he goes there, as a Kovy owner, I dont care about the hockey side of things, money and what not for right now, I want him in LA as I own him on my fantasy team and I think being in LA with that group would be sick!!
