Are goalies worth anything in this league? I'd have been like a kid in a candy shop with those goalies (Lehner, Greiss, Stalock, Salak). The thing I find strange about many of these draft lists is how highly people rate the current years draft class versus guys a couple years older who have already developed into the type of player that you can only hope the new draft class becomes.

I saw one earlier that had Ennis outside of the first round?? Give me Ennis over everyone not named Hall or Seguin!! The kid's already proved himself at the AHL level and made a very nice first impression at the NHL level.....but if you'd rather roll the dice on someone who might be as good as Ennis in three years then I can understand ; )

Yes, goalies are valuable, and the problem is that it is a full keeper, 12-team league, with rosters consisting of 28 players, plus an unlimited prospect bench. You can keep forward and dmen prospects for 3 years after drafting them and goalie prospects for 5 years before they have to be activated to your starting roster. So, as you can imagine, ALL the good goalies are taken and the only way to acquire a new goalie for your roster is via trade or hope that one of your prospect goalies graduates to the bigs.

In our league, players from the current draft year are picked early because "most" of the draftees from previous years have already been grabbed, usually in their respective draft year. Not many prospects slip through to other years, as you can see from my list (not many draftees from previous years).
    12 team, H2H, salary cap
    1 pt/G or A, 2 pts/W, 1 pt/OTL, 1 pt/SO

    Forward: B. Point, M. Necas, A. Debrincat, T. Zegras, J. Bratt, L. Raymond
    Defense: J. Morrissey, A. DeAngelo, S. Gostisbehere, D. Doughty
    Goalie: T. Demko, E. Merzlikins
    Bench: M. Rossi, C. Glass, M. Maccelli, M. Dumba, K. Shattenkirk, F. Andersen
Prospects of Note: L. Stankoven, J. Lekkerimaki, D. Yurov, B. Clarke

League has been running continuously since 1997-98

Well the time restrictions on the prospects makes it even more important to take the guys that will be here sooner rather than later no? All I'm saying is that I don't follow the logic in selecting Campbell with pick 10 and let Greiss slip to pick 39.....Greiss will be in the NHL next year! Another example would be Loktionov at pick 34, this guy's got a legit shot at contributing next year and has the upside of at least 15 players that were selected before him. Maybe I'm a bit short on patience or maybe I've watched too many prospects fade into the background but I'm all for the guys that have shown they can succeed against men....junior stats seem to mean very little in the AHL and even less in the NHL

You make good points, but I would personally still take Campbell over Greiss (for example). The reason is that Campbell has 5 years to make it in the NHL, and I think his upside is quite high. Greiss, on the other hand, may be in the NHL now, but I don't see him getting many starts now that Nittymaki is in town.

As for Loktionov, I had in in my top 10 among forwards, but I am quite happy to select Tarasenko, Granlund, and Skinner ahead of Loktionov because I don't believe Loktionov's upside is as high.

I do agree, however, that recent draftees tend to be hyped a bit more than players drafted two or three years ago, and I think that is largely a result of current draftees being a bit of an unknown quantity and we all secretly (or maybe not so secretly) hope to find in the draft a superstar.
