I sure hope Edmonton doesn't let the kids play over concerns about their contracts expiring three years from now. The fans deserve more than that.

The team will find a way to sign all three players if they deserve it. Crosby, Malkin, Staal, and Fleury all had contracts up around the same time, and they are all signed long term now.

Their contracts were all up this year and they all got raises but Keith's a fair amount older than the other two and I'm pretty sure he's been a full time NHL'er for a while now.

Gagner, Gilbert, Cogliano were all rookies for the oilers 3 years ago so ther's 3 rookies beginning their careers together. I still can't think of 3 high profile rookies on their first years of their ELC's starting their careers together (ie first year after being junior eligible, or while still being junior eligible).

It's true that Kieth had been in the NHL for longer than Kane and Toews, but that was still three BIG contracts that Chicago had to prepare for. If Edmonton plays their cards right, they would simply keep in mind that they have to sign three players like that in three year's time. It's all about doing basic math.

Personally I can't see that keeping the rookies out of their line-up. Not saying MPS is a lock to play, but I don't think that would be the reason he doesn't.

Yeah if they all prove themselves in camp they will all make the team. Three years is a long ways away to worry about their contracts. Unfortunately, it's still a short enough time that we will still have Horcoff and Gilbert's contracts/cap hits eating up cap space when that time comes...

MPS with 1G, 2A at the WC today. If he puts up a lot of pts at this tourney, how could he not make the EDM lineup next season.

MPS was really good in that game, made stuff happen all the time with his quickness, always driving to the net.

I love this kids swagger too! Anyone else remember the cocky comments he made in regards to the finals against Team Canada (2 years ago?). The Oilers need a little rock star in their attitude to get the mojo going again...

Ive been looking but my only luck is with TSN, and they only show Canada/USA highlights.
IIHF makes you pay to watch. As the tourney progresses into the better matchups I'm sure TSN will provide more highlights.

I cant wait too see MPS in an Oilers uni, he's exactly what the Oilers need more of; Size and speed. Hopefully the Oil can move O'Sulli, Pouliot and Nilsson; otherwise I dont see room for MPS next year, unless he has a really great training camp.
