Default S. Mason vs the Penguins: Ballsy, or just plain stupid?

Hitchcock's defensive system has imploded and allowed 26 goals in the past five games. The Penguins are 4-1 with a 19-9 GF/GA ratio during that span. Mason has a 1-0-0 record with a 2.77 GAA, .927 SV% in one start vs the Penguins (4-3 OTW on March 12, 2009).

So who is ballsy enough to start Steve Mason Friday against the mighty Malkin-less Pens?

Pittsburgh will win 3-2 in OT. I'm probably (55% sure) going to start mason because malkin's injured, mason's due and my goalies have been shitastic the last 1and a half weeks no way that continues. Heres to hoping bluejackets win 3-2.

It will be a game time decision

I'm considering leaving him on the bench and using the slot with a goalie who's not playing. My goaltending in all 3 leagues I am in is just abysmal...Luongo, Ward, Mason. What a bad start.

I'll play him if at least a few of you guys play him with me. I don't like the matchup obviously, but I think Mason is due and Pittsburgh is missing Malkin.

If things go badly at least we can all cry together.

Wow i vote for a yes, thinking i woudl be going against the grain, surprised at where the poll actually is.

Mason is my stud goalie, i tried picking his matchups last year and that failed, every time, this year he gets every game he is in, i figure his numbers will be good enought over the year that they will even out any bad outings, sure you can improve them by picking the right games but you can just as easily make them worse!

Good post and poll and responses.

Ride your studs. Mason won't suck forever. He's playing at home on a Friday night. No Geno for the Penguins.

I'm starting Mason in one of my leagues, but partially because I'm already down 6-3 and my goalie stats can only go up (thanks alot B. Elliott argggh).

I am playing mase tonight, but really only because i don't have the luxury of not playing him... He's on a tight leash though, 2 or more goals and Ima do what I should have done on Wednesday... Replace him with bryzgalov

I'm starting him tonight. My other option was Carey Price at Chicago.

Mason is very good at home.

He escaped the 1st period unscathed, but he looked shaky and "finchy" on several plays...he needs to regain that confidence.

Rick Nash falls into the net (on his own with no other players around) and knocks down Mason...Kunitz gets an open net. Are you kidding me?!

Whoever opened this thread is an idiot...

seriously, you only want your number 1 goalie to start vs. the islanders because his stats will slump otherwise?

You play your number 1 goalie vs. any team in the league, or obviously he isn't your number 1 goalie.

seriously, some people make me shake my head
