For the moment he's the uncontested back-up I would say. And considering Khabibulin's spotty record on health, I would say Deslauriers could start a fair number this season.
Is he the uncontested backup for the Oilers? And how many games will he get into behind Khabibulin?

No - he is being challenged by Devan Dubnyk. But JDD is definitely the favourite.
The chance of Dubnyk unseating JDD is very close to 0. He also has not helped himself out a ton this preseason. He has not been horrible, but he has not anything that screams put me in the NHL either.
It is not close to 0. Even the Edmonton papers mention Dubnyk breathing down JDD's neck. http://www.edmontonsun.com/sports/ho...04836-sun.html
I would still bet a lot of money that he ends up being the backup. But he is not the "uncontested" backup.
Dubnyk has as much of a chance of stealing JDD's spot as JDD has of stealing Khabibulin's. I'll put it that way,
What do you guys think his chances are to be a starter any time soon? upside? he's available in my dynasty league, and i'd have to either drop biron or roster him after dipietro goes on the IR.
I'm no goalie scout, but I watched Dubnyk and he moves noticeably slower than JDD. No comment on JDD's status as starter (that's GG's realm), but if Khabi goes down, he's the definite back-up in my eyes.
I don;t see JDD being the starter until Khabibulin's contract runs out. (or big injury of course)
I would argue that even if Khabi's contract expires or he gets injured that JDD may still not get the opportunity - they may bring someone in. There is always a chance he could step up but I think the possibility of him doing so isn't high percentage - Biron is likely a higher percentage move.
Yup you're right Shoeless.
In my dreams I see Harding wearing an Oiler jersey.
