    haha, good stuff.

crazy, ya i got the joke. sorry, my sarcasm didn't come through. i had actually written out a whole list of payment options... you know, bank wire across the country, tim hortons gift card, putting it all on black at the local casino... but i lost that post.

chic, i actually had my eye on chris mason too. i think the blues could do really well this season.

    Default My draft analysis...

I was stoked for Sunday night; first draft of the year couldn't come soon enough. Honestly, I was a bit nervous about it too as I know this is a very smart fantasy hockey crowd. I log on, and find I'm drafting 10th; very happy not to be in the top 3 so I'm hoping to grab a top goalie in the first round.
Round 1) Martin Broduer: once the first seven picks go without a goalie, I know I'm getting one of my top 3. I select Broduer about a milli-second after Ridinryan takes Luongo.
Round 2) Niklas Backstrom: with the three picks after me all taking goalies, I'm looking at grabbing Thornton, but Mapletreemarty quashes that. Backstrom should flirt with 95 so I go with him.
Round 3) Alexander Semin: RW is the hardest position to fill in my mind, so I'm hoping to grab one this round. Seeing Perry, Kane and St.Louis all go before my pick makes me think I'll be left in the cold, but fortunatley Semin is still there. BAB or not, if he repeats last season I'll be happy.
Round 4) Marc Savard: The rest of the top D and LW's have been scooped, but I'm surprised that Savard is still there. He's a no-brainer, and gives me two C with 90+ point potential.
Round 5) Chris Pronger: D-men are flying of the shelves now, so I decide to follow the flow before it runs dry. Pronger suits my needs, as he can still be a top offensive D-man.
Round 6) Marty Turco: I'm actually hoping to lock down my second RW, but Hemsky and Boyes go. Hossa is tempting, but I can't take a chance on a guy who will miss the first month of the season. Turco is the best goalie remaining in my mind, so I take him. Now I can focus on skaters.
Round 7) Derek Roy: LW is empty still, but as it comes to my pick I see that Tanguay, Kariya and Morrow are all still there. I'm very confident that at least one if not two will be there on my way back. I was hoping to grab Kaberle here, but Comish takes him. I take Roy, believeing I'm still getting one of the three LW's in four picks.
Round 8) Patrick Elias: BANG. BANG. BANG. All three off the board. Suddenly I'm looking at dregs as my LW. I snap up Elias, knowing that he wont repeat last year but hoping that he'll flirt with 65. Taking Roy is looking like a huge mistake right now.
Round 9) Claude Giroux: With only 1 LW and RW selected, I have to focus on these positions quickly; so do a couple of other team as well. PMB is the name i want, but Chic nabs him. I take Giroux, hoping that he sticks as a top 6 forward in Philly.
Round 10) David Booth: Now I need a LW, and Booth is the best of the bunch that's remaining. Maybe I'm delusional, but I'm not minding how my team looks right now.
Round 11) Erik Johnson: I realize that the other half of the Heatley trade is still on the boards; if Michalek makes it thru I'll grab him and lock down my LW. Nope, as Crazynuck grabs him to start the round. I only have Pronger, so I need a D-man. Both Souray and Corvo go, but I'm very happy that Erik Johnson is still around. Let's hope that St.Louis isnt having a charity golf tourney this year.
Round 12) Bryan Little: With the remaining RW's only Little and Mueller stand out. I go with Little as I'm not sure what to expect from anyone in Phoenix.
Round 13) Kevin Bieksa: With 2 D spots to fill, they are my focus now. Vancouver has a crowded blueline, but i still like Bieksa to get close to 45.
Round 14) Rob Blake: I jokingly say that my average team age just doubled with this selection; I had thought about Hedman but I think Blake will see a lot of PP time in SJ.
Round 15) Ryan Malone: I'm down to my last LW spot, and it will come down to Malone or Ryan Smyth. I go with Malone; hoping that the chemistry between Stamkos, St.Louis and he carries over to this year.

Overall, a good draft in my mind. I stored away a few things for the Dobber Pro pool next week, as that group will be just as knowedgable as this one.

HAHA! Thanks for reassuring me with this. I also do think the Blues could do very well this year and the fact that you and Crazy was still looking for your 2nd goalie made me pick him.

Nice write up NordiqueFan and HiL! Yeah, from what I read in all of them, it definitely was a tough draft as we had the same players on our radar at the same time.

Good idea lifer... I'll give it a go... tho I don't want to review me team

1)Roberto Luongo - Can't complain about owning Lui, but this completely threw me off. I figured I'd be able to grab a LW. When no goalies went before me at 9 I couldn't let Lui slip by. My game plan was to grab either Heater or Kovalchuk and Lundqvist on the way back down, not gonna happen.

2)Pavel Datsyuk - Hated the fact I had to take a center here, but he was the only guy who is a shoo-in for 95 points. Could have taken Getz or Backstrom, Datsyuk has just been so consistent. Yikes.... how am I gonna fill up my wings?

3)Thomas Vanek - Wanted Patrick Kane here, but wasn't upset to get Vanek. D. Sedin would have been a nice option but I was also kind of glad to avoid the homer pick and load up with Canucks! I think Vanek rebounds this year along with Roy, 75-80 from him is what I expect... 85 would be nice.

4)Daniel Alfredsson - Dmen start going here.... thought about it, but couldn't leave Alfredssons potential sitting there. He's old, hes fragile, but he's still PPG. Hard to pass up Spezza, but no way I could take another center here. Guaranteed spot alongside Spezza makes the decision easy... please stay healthy.

5)Ryan Whitney - Underrated.... just 'cus he isn't in Pittsburgh anymore doesn't mean he doesn't have the skills. Thought about Bobby Ryan, before he was taken, glad I didn't have to take what may have been an early (but good) risk on him. Whitney sees 50 this year alongside Neidermayer, and what will be a deadly Anaheim PP.

6)Marion Hossa - Accckkk. Kinda sold on the name here. Should have gone with Setoguchi. Only thing that saves me here is an early return.

7)Cam Barker - Wanted Kaberle here, almost got him. Barker is a solid pickup though and could flirt with 50. Let's hope he stays healthy.

8)Martin Havlat - PPG if healthy. Sigggggh. Here I am, justifying a Havlat pickup to myself. I love the look of my RW's, but I hate the fact I'm getting sponsorship calls from the Medical Supplies Industry. Seriously. Boom or bust for my RW's.... all extremely risky picks. If they stay healthy, I can be competitive.

9)Jonas Hiller - Not a ton of options left at this spot. Don't like the fact that he'll split with Giggy, but of those he plays the majority will be wins. He may be good enough to keep Giggy on the bench, too. Glad to not have to worry about my goaltending anymore.

10)Mikko Koivu - Gotta fill out my centers now. Brassard is still available, so is McDonald, I'll take one of them in a couple rounds to fill up my centers.... right? I like Koivu.... kinda. Maybe I should have taken McDonald before him.....effin hindsight! Hopefully Havlat stays healthy and these two can find some chemistry.

11)Scott Hartnell - Had to round out my LW..... his value is in multi-cat, but I see no reason why he doesn't repeat his 30-30 performance and maybe even up it by a couple. I'd love to see 65 from Hartnell and think it's completely possible on the powerhouse Flyers.

12)Tom Gilbert - Pure offense. Completely happy with this pick here. I need an injury to Luby or Souray to really make me happy, but I see 45 from Gilbert nonetheless. Could have taken Brassard, but I see Gomez is still available... I want Brassard but I'll take the risk.

13)Scott Gomez - 65 points. Someone has to score in Montreal. Wait a minute, someone had to score in NY as well. I feel he's got a better top line here than he did in NY though, I don't mind taking this shot. If he finds his old chemistry with Gionta and can put a couple pucks on Cammallari's stick, he could go 70-75.... long shot though.

14)Alex Goligoski - He'll put up the points. Could upset Letang for that 2nd spot on the PP, and wouldn't be surprised if it happened, simply because Letang is much better at everything else that Gogo isn't. 45 points Gogo.... easy.

15)Ville Leino - Round out the LW's. Here's to hoping he works his way on to the second line. Det is hard pressed to find some secondary offense, Leino is the best of the bunch. Even if he sticks on the 3rd line he's already found some chemistry with Filppula. 40-45 points with optimism for more......

Overall, I'm not very happy with my team. I didn't overcome the fact that my game plan was torn apart.... poor planning. That being said, if my RW's can surprise and stay healthy, and Vanek can return to form, I think I am pretty solid for the most part. Drafted a lot of players I usually avoid (Alfredsson, Havlat, Gomez) but I don't want to play it safe in this pool either. I'll stick to my "Boom or Bust" argument for the season!

so the real question becomes; are any of us truly happy with the team we drafted? LOL

Personally, i don't think there is a weak team in the group, any of these 12 could win it.

When you factor in that everyone involved has a serious passion for fantasy hockey(ok, addiction may be a better word than passion), its not like the office draft where the guys in accounting dont know that Kaberle, Morrow and Kariya only played a combined 30 games last season so you can scoop them late.

I'm thankful we did this before the Pro draft; it'll keep me focused better on players AND gives me a bit more insight as to who I'm drafting with.
