Comish Dynasty League Discussion for 2009-10

Just wanted to pass on an interesting stat from our season that has passed. Teams that drafted in the bottom third of our draft, now comprise 6 of the 10 teams set to compete in Tier 1. Only 2 teams from the middle (picks 11-20) and two teams that drafted in the top 10 finished in the top 10 this season. Interesting.

Could I get an estimate of where I would be drafting?

I guess the draft will just be extra motivation.

Joos, from what I can see, you\'ll most probably get the 15th overall pick. You should still get a decent pick with this spot.

joos, I think you\'ll be drafting 15th in the draft.

The breakdown on the drafting positions is this:

The playoff finalist picks 1st and the playoff runner-up picks 2nd.

30th place from the regular season picks 3rd and 29th place will pick 4th.

Regular season champ picks 5th.

After that, the rest of the picks go from worst to best finishing positions from the regular season (28th on up).

Here was the finishing order from the regular season. We at least know picks 3 thru 17 for sure. (Unless Chinny wins or places runner-up in the playoffs, then he picks 1st or 2nd and not 5th).

Funny that two of the teams packing it in are from Tier 3 as well...

probably the 2nd pick were better maybe they draft far in round 1 but receiving a 2nd pick in the top 40 won\'t hurt ....

Question about the playoffs... do you guys like draft a playoff team or something? I dont see how you can use you\'re normal team since many of those players probably are not in the playoffs.

Nope! That\'s one of the thing that make this league even tougher. Before every round you need to declare up to X number of players (11F and 1G in round 1, 9F and 1G in round 2, 7F and 1G in round 3 and 5F and 1G in round 4) from the guys your team.

This change the trade and FA pickup dynamic a bit near the end of the season.

Serious... so let me get this straight. I could finish #1 in regular season but have no one on my team that is in the playoffs. Obviously that is an extreme situation but what if I dont even have 11F or 1G that is in the playoffs? Like unless the two finalists have the 2 goalies that make it to the stanley cup... wouldn\'t there be no goalies. for example... a team that didnt make the playoffs has Osgood and Detroit makes it to the stanley cup... wouldnt it leave at least one of the final teams not have a goalie...

So closer to the trade deadline... you can say that the top teams were probably trying to get players from playoff bound teams?

as the team that finished first i was trying to add \"playoff\" players at the end of the year, it does make it tough

i was pushing to allow the top half of the teams starting at 1 to pick the team they are against each round from the bottom half to give the top guys a bit of an advantage, but yes there isnt really any advantage to finishing high during the year

A good example is BleedBlue, finished 2nd in the regular season but going into tonight is down 9-4 to 15th ranked Praba
Bleed Blue is icing
Selanne, D.Boyle, Oshie, Sundin, Bernier, Mitchell, Moen, Mottau, Brashear and Janssen
while Praba is icing
Malkin and Biron to handle them!
Ok he also has Pavelski, Cooke, Grier, Ference, Krog, Aliu, Korpikoski, Lapierri and D\'Agostini

but the regular season ranking means nothing once it gets to here, we also have some great playoff teams getting matched up against each other including the 8vs9 matchup where the 9th ranked team is down 22-14 where as the 14 is better than everyone else!

I hate to bother you Comish, as you\'re probably a busy guy, but would it be possible to have an update on when trading is open, current rosters, draft date, draft positions etc....

It might help spur on some more activity and such. Also, I\'m eager to prepare my team for the upcoming season.

Not a bother, it\'s my responsibility to give you guys a timeline for the summer and leading up to our next draft. I have definitely been thinking about this, but haven\'t been able to come up with \"the plan\" just yet. I\'m working on it and will try to have something for you guys to think about soon.

Watch the NHL entry draft and free agency happen. Take summer holidays. I don\'t think we should expect much activity before the end of July, okay maybe mid-July, but with no strict deadlines because of summer holidays.

At the same time, I will be proposing some rule tweaks based on what happened this year with the intention of closing any loopholes or potential loopholes and trying to make the pool better.
