I don\'t believe that Niitty or Conklin are locks for those number one jobs - this is a goalie post quick hit on goalie starts for tomorrow.

Red Wings goalie Ty Conklin started for the third straight game, but Babcock said Chris Osgood will be back in net for Thursday\'s game against the Minnesota Wild.

Nitty has been announced to start Thursday, and the team plays Sat and Sun so Biron on Sat makes sense even if Nitty is 1a. As for Conks, don\'t know what to make of it, but I think even if Conks is 1a he won\'t get more than 2/3 of the starts, so I\'m hoping this is just Osgood\'s turn in the rotation...

I think that\'s right Dutch - I am invested in Niitty in two leagues and Conks in my roto league and I would love to get a stable starter who could put up similar numbers.

I still think that if Biron were to get a shut out or stop 35 shots against a good team he would have the job back right away.

I have highlighted the biggest word in that sentence. You are right but he has not been playing well. As much as I would love having nitty as the starter I believe in the long run it will be Biron because of his playoffs last year.

Well, my thinking is this:

Nitty takes the start against every god awful team they play, his numbers should be better. Now that he seems to be the #1 and Biron is getting the Islanders, you\'re going to see Biron become #1 again soon.

It\'s isn\'t much of a compliment to Biron, but when you\'re getting rotated in and out, and mostly playing elite teams while your backup takes every Tampa and Atlanta game, you\'re going to struggle a bit more and probably see the kind of results we\'re seeing this year thus far.

Who knows, could be wishful thinking on my part.....

Just looking at my other goalie, it was a similar situation until Carolina got a new coach and Ward took every start and actually developed a rhythmn in net.

The decision is not unprecedented but comes in time for Niitymaki to make the start in Thursday\'s game against the Ottawa Senators.

Biron\'s recent struggles prompted Stevens to make the move.
