An early "keep 6 of these players"-thread

It's clear I will miss playoff this year so Im beginning to look at which players to keep to next year. I can only keep 6 and my team is in the signature. Only the ones in bold is keeper eligible and 2 of them are pretty obvious:

1. Jason Robertson
2. Adrian Kempe

I narrowed down the list to keep 4 of these:
3. Juraj Slafkovsky
4. Dylan Guenther
5. Leo Carlsson
6. Will Smith
7. Kent Johnson
8. Luke Hughes
9. Cutter Gauthier
10. Aliaksei Protas
11. Samuel Ersson
12. Jackson LaCombe

And myself Im leaning on keeping the first 4 of them. What is your opinion? every input is much appreciated.

Interesting, so you both rank K Johnson and L Hughes higher than L Carlsson. Thanks for the input!

I could see Carlsson too but that Ducks team seems to keep taking steps back. They’ll get there. Sharks are further along and CBJ are rolling. And dont keep players based on position (except I never keep G in a limited keeper). BPA. So many draft pick examples out there of teams who drafted for positional need vs BPA and it never works out.

I think we're missing some info - what makes someone eligible to be kept?

If these players are forever able to be kept, then I'd go:

If there is some restriction to how long you can keep someone (ie. only 3 years or something), I'd grab KJ over Leo, and Smith over Hughes.

Only players drafted in 11th round and later are keeper eligible, so keepers like Robertson and Kempe have been keepers for some years now. The cost for having a keeper goes up by one every year. So for example Kempe will cost 4 keeper points next year for me. The reason for not including that info is that there is only a total keeper cost limit for the 4 best playoff teams. So for me the cost doesnt matter much until Im a true contender.

How many 'keeper points' would you have? I've done value keeper systems in the past but not something like this. It's very interesting. I'd be curious how far you think you'd be from a top 4 team. This would impact my decision. Because you could end up getting to a place where if you keep holding Hughes, by the time the keeper cost hits you, he wouldn't be able to be kept possibly (say you're 5 years out).

Winning limits the keeper cost to 16 the next season, 2nd place=20, and 3rd and 4th=24.
My keeper points would be around 15-18 depending on which players I keep. There is another thing, which wasn't relevant to my initial question, we can actually keep 8 players. But two of them are what we call "false keepers"= they are just kept the following season, the next season they must be dropped.
I would think Im about 2-3 years away from competing being a top 4 team.
