What would be your strategy - Holloway or Blackwood

Hi, I'm in 1st place by far in my league. I have a 66 points lead over the second place. I have one claim per season and I still not used it.

I could pick Dylan Holloway and drop Jeff Skinner. Holloway has 30pts in 29gp since november 25th so it seems to be a real breakout. He would become a starter over A.Tuch or V.Trochek. Both have been very inconsistent this year so it would be an improve for my offense.

But M.Blackwood is also a free agent that I could pick. I don't need him with already 4 goalies but I wonder if he could get me a better player than Holloway in a trade next summer(trades are only allowed in the offseason in this league). With good performances and a long term contract with the Avs, his value will be high.

Should I secure the title for this year improving my offense with Holloway? Should I get the asset with the higher value with Blackwood and bet my 66 points lead is enough to win?

Or I could secure my defense by claiming a dmen because I don't have a backup at this position. But the best pickups are D.Toews, A.Pietrangelo, B.Montour and J.Walman so nothing makes me say wow.

What would be your strategy in my situation?

I would go for Holloway. Sometimes having extra assets at a particular position doesn't necessarily mean you will get the return you think you can/should. Holloway has looked very good and should continue to have a prominent place in St. Louis top 6.

Can I ask a question... how would you feel if you went with Plan B and hoping your plan B is enough and then it ends up not being enough?

Would you look back at this move and wish you would have made it to help secure the championship?

Yes, I would regret. But a 66 points lead at the beginning of february seems a pretty safe bet. I think I could get a PPG player for Blackwood in a trade next summer so I guess the real question is does Holloway is a real PPG player? His breakout seems real. He's been hot for two months now and plays a lot in St Louis.

Holloway is probably the safer bet as other said but Blackwood with his great value is tempting.

haha ya i thought of this too, but he's gt 4G already...but Binn and Knight aren't exactly world beaters. my initial reaction was to keep teh hammer down, and adding MB may result in a similar outcome as adding Holloway...BUT we all know goalies are VOODOO and can turn sour just as fast.

Blackwood has been traded on december 9th and signed his new contract on december 28th. 9 teams out of 14 had already made their annual claim when he got traded. Another team made his claim(P.Broberg) before he signed his new contract. Since this, 11th team made his claim(K.Marchenko).

Only 3 teams still has their claim. Me and two other GM. One of the other GM left the league so he won't claim and the last one who could steal my claim has a very low participation. I'm not even sure if he knows he can claim a player. With my big lead and the fact I'm pretty sure nobody will steal my player, I've been patient to see if Holloway and Blackwood could substain their production.

You’ve got a big lead and only 3 teams left can make a claim. I’d wait a bit longer and see if Gretzky or Lemieux come out of retirement to really put you over the edge. If you don’t feel like waiting, grab Holloway.

I just made my decision. I claimed MacKenzie Blackwood.

I have a 71 points lead right now so I'm comfortable to take the risk with less than 2 months of hockey.

I'm still uncertain about Holloway. He has 1 goal and 5 assists in his last 10 games. Yeah, he has 32 points in his last 34 games, but I'm not sure he will substain this production. Blackwood is probably a far better asset right now and I think I have more chances to have Holloway still available next draft.

I wonder now if my claim works, do I drop Binnington or Jeff Skinner? I would have 5 goalies but Binnington could have a value on the market next summer while Skinner won't have any value.
