FYI he wanted Marner, Barkov, Panarin, Shesterkin, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, and to keep Marner I swapped him with Nylander + Josi + 1st

Thoughts? I feel very comfortable doing this, especially in light of the comments in this thread. The McDavid owner is making a big mistake imo by not consulting the rest of the league to hear their offers, because he really wants to shake things up for his team but isn't putting in the work to see what offers are out there. (Also, he's a Leafs fan so I am getting bias-value on Nylander being considered more valuable than he should be imo).
Without knowing the value of the picks, on the whole, that seems good for both sides. The other owner is getting a lot of assets and upgrades, and you're getting the best player without giving up an elite asset.

As much as I love McDavid I think you are giving up too much here. Probably way to much. McDavid is the only decent thing you are getting back.

    McDavid/Necas/ Kucherov/Bjorkstrand/Rust/Nugent Hopkins/Cirelli/Zegras/- Letang/Morrissey/Dahlin - Swayman/Saros/Skinner

    Prospects include:
    McTavish/Clarke/Bordeleau
    Dumais/Korchinski/Hutson

Don't worry I'm not going to say anything more than I have to. If that.

For context, Schwartz and Duclair are being dropped when Kaprizov and Lauzon come back off IR, avoiding having to drop Voronkov or Vatrano. And Schenn gives me a streaming option which I never have because my team is really good and full of players I don't want to drop. It also gives me room to snipe someone like I did with Voronkov if that happens with someone else (which I've missed out on guys in the past before because of that reason). Shesterkins value imo may significantly replicate Sorokin's value in the near future (obviously more than him, but if NYR do rebuild, his value will plummet whereas Wolf will go signifcantly up). I could see if I could remove the 2026 picks possibly?

Big picture, my keepers (all underlined) would have the highlighted changes in red and green below, and you can see the new starting lineup and bench implications that this would create. (The picks I don't care that much given what I know is still available for prospects and my ability to leverage free agency). Also with the high end talent on my team, I don't expect my picks to be high in ranking for the next 5-6+ years.

EDIT: Scratch the below proposal. A couple minutes after proposing the idea, he said he doesn't think he's comfortable moving him unless he gets one of my top guys (which tbf I get). So back to the drawing board.

Deal will be done if I accept his final revision/request of swapping Josi with Hedman and removing the 2026 1st:

    I give:
Nylander, Barkov, Panarin, Hedman, Shesterkin, 2025 2nd, two 2025 3rd rd picks.

    I get:
    McDavid, Schwartz, Duclair, L Schenn Wolf, 2025 5th, 6th, 7th rd picks.

Rantanen trade making this possible. Owner has Aho, and I am less inclined to hold Rantanen since i no longer have the Mack Rant stack.

Been talking with owner and most likely will get the deal done by trading:

    Rantanen, Barkov, Shesterkin, Stamkos
    For
McDavid, Eiserman, Wolf, L Schenn (streamer until Sergachev comes back)

Thoughts? I'm feeling like this is a for sure accept.

Yeah that maybe ok now, but you are reducing your talent level by a lot. I'm not sure im doing this if im you. Arguably best winger in the game, best goalie and top 20 C for one guy....best guy in the trade but one guy...

and yes i think this will get accepted, even more sign that you are overpaying for someone who is technically underperforming atm.

I think you are doing more harm than good to your roster this year. You’re getting significantly weaker at RW and G for nowhere near as much of an upgrade at center.

This is definitely a surprise to me. Goalies are so voodoo that I don't have that high of a pricetag on him, especially in light of NYRs lack of prospect depth and aging out team. Wolf is exciting and entering into his era in a team that has a decent prospect pool.

Stamkos is a sell high right now, so adding him in I don't mind.

Going from two keepers in Barkov and Rantanen to one keeper in McDavid is a big W in my eyes, being the youngest of them all and by a large margin the best of them all. At the end of the day you have to give a lot to get McDavid and I have the assets to do exactly that while not hurting my team that much.

I could be wrong on this, I just have a hard time with this idea that it's really bad for me and my team.

I think the point you’re missing is that you currently have 2 of the few elite centers in the league and a top 20 center in Barkov. You don’t need another center and going from what you currently have to McDavid isn’t really helping your team that meaningfully.

At the same time you are weakening two of the hardest positions to fill in the league RW and G. The drop from Rantanen, top 2 elite RW, to no replacement at that position is huge. Igor to Wolf is equally huge. Goalies are voodoo, but Igor is one of the least voodooie in the league.

You said earlier that you’re aiming to repeat this year. I think the move you would be making here pulls you further away from repeating than actually moving the needle forward.

If you are really interested in making a trade, LW and D are the areas you should be focused on. Rantanen for Makar, or Draisaitl are the type of deals you should be looking to make. That would make you stronger this year.

Just for context, I have the outlined roster in my sig as a starting lineup, assuming many people know the dual eligibility of players.

Ie. My RW slot if I did this trade would fit: Marner, Nylander, Ovechkin, Hyman, Vatrano

I do get your point, I still don't know, it feels like the opportunity to get him.
