I buy that they've reached the end. I'm just not convinced there will be a reasonable trade they can make given the constraints of the sizeable contracts and Miller's NMC. There may be, but I am not certain there's that many teams ready, willing and capable of going there mid-season. Feels like a recipe for getting taken.

JT Miller is a solid offensive player, but man, his attitude with his contract just make him a walking red flag for me if I was a GM. A guy who is as intense as he is, but with glaring defensive effort issues just scream locker room issues regardless of where he is to me. He just seems like a guy who screams at players to do better but doesn't take accountability for his poor play when it happens. Could be wrong with this tho, but issues with multiple Canucks and I believe issues on the Rangers just keep having the arrow point to him as the issue that's not fixing himself.

I'd take him for 1.5yrs max.

I can't see Miller's issues really being that bad, I mean we have Tochett as a coach I can't see him putting up with anything to extreme, which is why it was rumored that Miller was told to take a leave of absence. As for Petey, I can't stand watching him play anymore. He has a few beautiful plays but in-between that he looks like Bambi on ice. If he can't handle a little criticism ship him out.

Well if what you suggesting, that he was actually asked to take time off, is true, then it is very bad in fact. I don't think something like this can be fixed within the team. Guys can say all the right things but they got all that "bad attitude" in the back of their mind and once adrenaline is up during the game or intense practice sometimes you can control what's in the back of your mind...

Pettersson is only on pace for 67 points this season (calculated over a full 82 game season). Going back to last year, he did not play well the last couple months of the regular season, and on top of that only contributed 6 points through 13 playoff games. Miller not only doubled Pettey’s playoff production, but he is also producing much more this year.

Pettersson’s struggles could be due to a number of things, but the fact is that he is not producing. Pettey wanted to play for a winning team, signed a big contract with Vancouver, and is not doing his part to help his team win. Some players allow teammates or outside pressure to affect their game more than others. If Miller’s attitude is contributing to Pettersson’s poor play, I can guarantee you that if Miller gets traded, the media in Canada will have the same impact on Pettersson throughout his career.

If Pettersson plays like an $11.6M player, this is a very good team that is easily top 2 in the Pacific Division standings right now. If Vancouver wants the best chance at a Stanly Cup in the near future, I think Pettey is the player to move. From a contractual standpoint, I believe his NMC does not start until July, so Vancouver has much more flexibility on which teams they can trade him to in order to maximize return. On top of that, Miller has just played better.

I agree with this. I would rather wipe tame a stallion (Miller) than have to wipe a Mule (Petterson). I watch pretty much every Canucks game and I know it's part the style of player is but he looks so disinterested sometimes. He's been playing like 6 million dollar forward for now almost a full year.

The problem is that if casual fans are noticing the lengthy "blah" in Pettersson's play on a bloated contract, surely the NHL GMs and hoards of scouts supporting them are too.

Will likely be very difficult to get a really solid return for him right now, unless whatever addition by subtraction Vancouver thinks will result is factored in as well.

Not sure what it has to do with my post but ok...i never suggested Miller is in the wrong here. What i said is, that if it in fact got so bad that he was asked to leave for few weeks, that chemistry between those 2 cant be repaired. Something got to give. I also agree that i much rather have Miller than Petty but if it in fact got very bad there maybe HR implications too...who knows what the whole situation is.

It was quite literally a response to your thoughts, with some new ideas and concepts added in (as one does). Maybe I need to explain how it relates in simpler terms:

You were eluding to the potential riff between Pettey and Miller being so bad you “don’t feel something like this can be fixed within the team.” I responded by adding another perspective to your point in that if the alleged riff has this big of an impact on Miller/Pettey, perhaps outside forces like a teammate or the Canadian media has more of an impact on some players than others. I then took a step further (as many do in responses), and made the assumption that if you “don’t feel an issue like this can be fixed within the team” perhaps it could make sense to trade one of them. I then go into reasons why I believe Pettey makes the most sense to trade.

I will make sure to add direct quotes from your posts when responding to you in the future to make things more simple

Apparently the Ranges offered Zibanejad one for one for Miller, *puke. What a brutal offer.

I got news for you. If he wants to go to one team only, and Vancouver is set on moving him, they should have taken that offer because next one will be less sexy.

Allvin has some leverage, at least he tries to give the appearance of having it, despite Miller's NMC, since they've gone out and declared that one or both could be traded. If Drury, as reported, wants Miller, he likely has to offer more than Zibanejad.

I believe that Vancouver's preference in this situation is to trade Miller and keep Pettersson. I'd hate to have the same problem reappearing between Miller and Hughes in a year. Without having a job on the line, I'd bite the bullet and accept losing Miller for Ziba and a good prospect/defender or some salary cap.
