JT Miller rumored to only waive his NMC for the Rangers. Pettersson's NMC kicks in in the summer, if I'm not mistaken.
Would Zibanejad accept being traded to Vancouver?
Lots of buzz around these two guys. Figured there should be a thread.
Canucks are shopping both.

Cap hurdles might make dealing either guy impossible mid-season. It's not like they are trying to outright dump either player like the Rangers were with Trouba. Plus, for all the acrimony, the Canucks are still lingering in a playoff spot so unless things really go sideways it would seem that they have time to sort things out.
I wonder if everyone getting some time away from each other for the All-Star and 4 Nations Face Off doesn't help provide a reset and a chance to buckle in for one more playoff run together before things get split up in the summer. Or does competing against one another in the 4 Nations fuel more fire?
I don't doubt Allvin/Rutherford's ability to get something done mid-season but a world of possibilities opens up if they can white-knuckle this thing until the summer.

If one were speculating. I'd think that the Sabres and Canucks could solve a lot of problems for one another exploring something with Cozens/Byram for either of the Canucks centers.
Given how long it took for him to sign that contract, maybe they all felt it was an okay option, if whatever paused Pettersson to sign continued to bother him.
I think they've concluded that the rift between Pettersson and Miller is beyond repair, and they will make the most reasonable trade they can as soon as possible - in the coming weeks/month. All chips on Miller to NYR!
So what exactly is the rift between the two? I haven't seen/heard anything about that, and must say that it confounds me that it involves these two players. I didn't think either of them were the sort to disrupt the locker room.

The TL;DR is that Miller is "old school", "vocal", "holds people accountable" etc -- ie all the euphemisms we see for behaviours that would be called bullying under almost any other context. Brad Richardson was recently in the media, talking from his firsthand experience in the room, and said that he thought Miller was too hard on the guy, and BR is old school.
And Petey doesn't take criticism well, he wants positive reinforcement. So it's just a pure culture misalignment in how a relationship works.

Canucks are gonna get Tkachuk'd here if they arent careful.
I hope they don't cave to fans on this, and do something stupid like trade someone.
Its JT. Runs too hot. Had issues with Horvat, they traded Bo. Now its Petterson. It will always be someone.
Petterson also has his foot in his mouth as he, several years ago, "wanted to play for a winning team", and now he is but isnt keeping up his part of the bargain. Elias, listen boy, YOU are the difference between a cup final and what we have now, drama. I dont think Petterson is really committed to Vancouver.

yes i like Buffalo, lots to work with there

End of the day, they are people at work, like us. All work locations have potential for conflict, we all try to resolve it when we can, sometimes personalities make it extremely difficult or even impossible. Difference here is that its public-ish and big money is at stake. I think their job is very hard, to be expected to be perfect every game. Fans have a place here too, to STFU.
Trading Miller will be difficult with his trade protection. Would he waive it to go to the Rangers? Possibly, but I think the return would need to be a lot more than Zibanajed coming back to Vancouver for it to make sense.
On the other hand, Pettersson’s trade protection does mot kick in until after this season. He has not played like the All Star player he needs to be, and as a fantasy owner of his, I have been pretty disappointed in his off-ice interviews as well. He just doesn’t seem engaged.
My prediction is that both players have lots of trade interest, but due to Miller’s NMC, Pettersson is the one who is traded. If this happens, I also think Pettersson will be traded for asset(s) that will help the team as well as JT.
My BOLD prediction is that Pettersson gets dealt to Anaheim. They have lots of attractive young pieces, and can also include a serviceable vet in a deal. Buffalo is also a team that has been rumored to have interest, which I could also see.
My bold prediction here (and by bold I mean what I hope happens) is Petey to Carolina for Kotkaniemi and Svechnikov. Make it happen!

I can't believe no one's mentioned Toronto as a destination, lol! I kid, although, Miller does play a playoff style of game (30 points in 30 games over the last 2 playoff years combined) that would likely help in a playoff run, but at what cost (both trade-wise and locker room)?
