I don't like this. Teams won't be traveling to LA for the draft. They will be selecting players from their own arenas and Betman will make the annoucenments. We won't be seeing managment giving their picks the team's jerseys to put on. It's once a year!

Yeah, I get why the organizations like this way better and I’m sure it is much easier for them to operate, but it is a major step backwards as far as fan engagement goes. Clearly they are less interested in increasing viewership and more interested in appeasing the board of governors.

i think there is also a money saving component to this...should not be with money making business like this but it probably is. Every business out there is looking to reduce costs right.

The only thing I'll miss is seeing the families in the stands after their son is drafted. I suspect they'll have enough interesting content that wiil keep me entertained between picks. Rest assured, the media sure will complain about this!

you just made a point i did not think about....does this have anything to do with what happened to Jeff Marek last year!?

It's probably not related to Marek as it's been in the talks for sometime. Like, it was known that Vegas last year was the last year.

Yes, it's cost related. Teams now travel with GM, head scouts, coach, former or current players, doctors and psychologists, etc. They all need to be lodged at the hotel.
There was a thing two years ago in Nashville where some teams couldn't be accomodated in Nashville's hotels so they had to be roomed far away from where the draft was happening.

To be quite frank, I haven't watched a live draft in years. It feels like when I was a kid, there were trades happening on the floor and that's what interested me. Nowdays, trades happen 24 to 72 hours in advance. Even worse, we even had teams move up THE DAY BEFORE. There isn't much left to watch, other than kids putting a jersey on and telling us how great the team they drafted is, and analysts who tell us how great this kid is going to be.

    Yes they will.
    With their families.
And the league and one rep from each team.

But GM, scouts, etc wont. They'll draft from the team HQ.

    Top prospects, that is.

Here's a link to some of last year NFL's draft (44 mins only showing the 5 QB picks).

It won't be this big (it's the NFL) but to give you an idea. If it can appease you of what it *could be*.
