This feels very cheap?
How many better deals for Kakko have NYR turned down in the past?
Maybe Kakko will be better on 1-2 line and PP

I think Seattle got a deal , i just hope they give him better opportunity than the Rangers... Would have loved to see him with Bedard

They got better. But Kakko will remain irrelevant fantasy wise. Middle 6 winger and at best PP2.
NYR gave him 5 and a half years. He's also a bit of a bandaid. I think the trade represents more the value NYR gets out of him now than the value SEA might be getting. Hard to trade a what if after he's played 330 games over 5 and a half years.
I think Seattle made a smart move. They basically gave up nothing (they weren’t really playing borgen beyond 3rd pair-ish and can replace him) for a lotto ticket. For the rangers, I see why they did it as well. Got a band aid for their D and got rid of a disgruntled player.
To atomic’s point though. He never really got 2nd OV treatment and everyone agrees with that. What gets lost is that he also never really forced the rangers hand. So I see both sides, but after 5+ years, it’s time to move on or accept that you’re not a L1 (or probably in this case, not a L2 either). He’s a fine player at the right salary to fill out a lineup on L3 (and can fill L2 for an injury etc).
I would not write him off yet… I would also not go out of my way to acquire him. If you own him, you hold and hope for the best. If he flops in Seattle then it will be time to move on.

Low risk, potential high (low chance) reward for Seattle. Rangers get a guy who was airing dirty laundry in the public out of the locker room. If Kakko was willing to say "I'm not the reason why we're losing, why am I sitting?" publicly you wonder what his attitude was behind closed doors.
You could see a bump in play by Kakko because he could be more engaged, but I don't think there's much here to be excited about. At best he can move into an Eeli Tolvanen type of story.

needed to happen, wish him well and hope he prospers but it was never gonna happen in NY. NYR get back mid round picks next draft that they've been dealing away every deadline in a go for it attempt. At this point I am hoping Drury is considering this season a wash and sells off every asset he can in an attempt to make this a very quick return to prominence. Lindgren should net something decent from a contender and if he really is all in on a rebuild on the fly, he alerts the league Panarin is available and retains a third of the salary with the space cleared by the Trouba trade.
Sure, hence my saying retain a third to make it compelling to deal for if he is willing to accept. The window with this core is closed, he is 33, they've had six attempts now to win it all with him and it hasn't happened. Great player but I have no interest in them resigning what will be a 34-year-old by the time his current deal ends. This season is lost IMO and I hope Drury/Dolan sees it as the same and makes use of this moment to deal away for as much as possible to hopefully make this a one year turnaround built back up around a core of Chytil/Laf/Fox/Igor. Perreault is coming next year to inject immediate skill hopefully.
I just have a feeling that we may see Alexander Holtz 2.0 here in that the change of scenery is not going to have the instantaneous and miraculous effect that Kakko owners might like. Still, there is hope, we'll see.
