Trouba to the Ducks

There are a lot of balls in the air regarding Jacob Trouba, per sources. He will not be on the ice for #NYR today due to roster management purposes. Possible he's traded or even hits the waiver wire at 2 p.m. ET.

i admit i dont watch many Rangers games, has he really been that bad? I know his offensive numbers are not good but that's not all Dman has to do so what's the story? I understand a trade, but putting him on waivers? Do they really have 6 better D than him?

I think his defensive game has even fallen off. But I think there's resentment between Trouba and NYR with how his offseason even went and the team wanting to move him but he exercised his NTC. Think like Goodrow not too long ago. They wanted to trade him, he blocked it, then they went "Ok well we will waive you and the team we want to trade you too will pick you up, so have fun".

The way this has all gone is much too public, and emotions are 100% playing a part in the decisions.

Better? Probably. Cheaper? Definitely. His xGoal number have cratered this year and his corsi is underwater. There are worse defensemen in the league. But he would be of interest to someone like Pierre Macguire who loves truculence and the “eye test”. He’s a dirty player and I hate him.

Okay, Jacob Trouba:

Hearing Rangers do have several options, but Trouba can block with his partial no-trade. Rangers have indicated they will waive him if he does not accept one. One team is believed to be Columbus.

This is absolute hardball, but there is a precedent. In November 2005, Todd Marchant refused to waive his no-trade from Columbus to Anaheim as part of the Sergei Fedorov deal. So the Blue Jackets waived him, and the Ducks made the claim to "complete" the transaction.

Regarding being waived if he chooses not to waive his NTC, there's also the precedent of the Rangers doing exactly that to Goodrow this past June

I'm curious to see if Trouba lands somewhere he can get some run on the PP and boost his offense again. He's still an elite banger, but a few PPP would go a long way.

He has been terrible for a year-plus. Terrible turnovers. Terrible reads. Terrible penalties. The Rangers are a worse team when he is on the ice.

As an aside, it's also been very frustrating to watch clearly dirty plays get excused by Player Safety because the offender wears the C at MSG.

I hope they waive him and he clears down to the AHL!

I think so. I know Jack Campbell was the highest cap hit to be waived. And I think Sheldon Souray was waived at one point, but he never was a captain and it was at the end of his career.

Wade Redden was waived by the Rangers in 2010 with a $6.5M caphit. A guy I grew up with played in Hartford with him and spoke highly of Redden's generosity, seeing as he was making several times the rest of the team's salary combined.
