I’d go Bouchard
I have the first overall pick for this year's 5-player keeper league. It's for the league in my sig, bolded players are my keepers. Shallow league so 40 players have been kept which leaves me with some pretty good options.
Panarin is the best player available, but there is some part of me who feels I could go with a goalie here. 9 goalies in total have been kept. Here are some of the top players that are available:
Panarin
Nylander
Forsberg
Bouchard
Sorokin
Bobrosvky
Markstrom
I shouldn't overthink this one and go with Panarin, correct?
Thank you in advance.

Same, give me Bouchard. You have a top G and it is 8 categories for skaters vs 4 (really 3 with shut-outs) for Goalies. You want to improve your keepers if possible, and Bouchard will do that. You should not have 2 Goalies as keepers ever in a keep 5 so every year there should be some solid Goalie Options available.

I like Bouchard as well. Don't like going goalie in a shallow league and don't like Panarin in a banger. Could maybe sell me on Nylander if you think he sticks at C and enters the 500 FOW club as a RW eligible.
Bouchard or Nylander is the 2 players I would be looking at.
Either player is an upgrade to your Keepers.
I left my previous fantasy hockey league. So just some guy who likes and plays hockey.
i think in your set up Forsberg is BPA. But he got injury history. If if was me, i probably take a chance with Forsberg, if not i agree to go Bouchard.

Panarin, you already have JEK/Meier for established grit, take the most elite point scorer here and address additional grit in later rounds. Bouchard is of course great in his own right but doesn't have the point potential of Artemi. Go ahead and call me biased but he's not netting 90 points perennially like Bread.
I'm not blowing my first pick on one of those Goalies. I also think taking Bouchard is the best play.

I'd go with Bread or Forsberg. Bread was money last year- lots of production and Forsberg had a breakout year and now has a stronger cast around him. You have Oetenger, who is an elite goalie. Of the other "best" choices, Sorokin and Bob are the best, but Sorokin is coming off a bad year and is rickety with his back. I had the option of keeping him and passed... Bob, well, he could be great, but he isn't a guarantee.
Thanks for all the replies, my mindset was take the elite scorer who has 100+ potential, despite the lack in banger peripherals. Goalies have been punted, but Bouchard is one that I had a dark horse originally, not the favourite.
General consensus is 90+ potential dman is more valuable than 100+ potential winger, relative to their positions?
Also note we are on year 4 of a 5 year keeper so while there are still some keeper ramifications, my overall focus is this the now.
Thanks!
