Default Re: Dobber PRO Campbell [2024-25]

I was very happy with this draft. I think D got a little away from me but I'm still fine with how it ended up being.

First thought was D and G were flying off the board way too quickly in my mind. I had to get on the G run to not be left too much behind but G only accounts for 3 out of 9 cats and while I understand there's 6D to start, there's also 12F even if they're split in three different positions. I figured I'd let the Ds go and just focus on drafting top forwards and focus my D to help out with hits stats.

    1. (4) David Pastrnak (BOS - RW): Figured I'd grab B. Tkachuk here but with Kucherov going 3rd, I'm happy to grab Pasta for a strong dose of goals and shots. Plus, he hits decently.

    2. (21) Filip Forsberg (NSH - LW): I don't understand why Forsberg keeps slipping in fantasy. I understand the injury history but we have IR slots and if he does manage to play 80 games, he's a top-10 player in this format. Taking advantage of the early goalie run to grab him.

    3. (28) Jason Robertson (DAL - LW): If Robertson plays like last year, this is probably a bit of a reach. If he gets back to what we know he can do, then I just grabbed a third 90+ point forward with a high-shot volume. I'm banking on the second.

    4. (45) Jeremy Swayman (BOS - G): I was hoping Skinner or Georgiev would slip to me but as they both went, I selected the last G remaining on this tier in Swayman. The contract scares me a little but when he'll play, he'll give me W and a great GAA.

    5. (52) Aleksander Barkov (FLA - C): Another 90+ point forward in the 5th round? Don't understand how guys like Rielly and Dobson get selected before him. Good for me though!

    6. (69) Cole Caufield (MTL - LW,RW): Can't imagine him shooting under 10% for two years in a row. That paired with his high-volume shooting and I now have potentially 3 of the top 10 highest shot-getters in the league.

    7. (76) Moritz Seider (DET - D): I wanted Johnston or Trocheck but both went at the turn so I select my first D. Even if he only gets 50 points, considering how much he he hits, I'm fine with this pick.

    8. (93) Jordan Binnington (STL - G): Wanted to grab another surefire starter. Binnington will get me volume and if he has a strong year again, he'll even be good for GAA.

    9. (100) Nick Suzuki (MTL - C)
    10. (117) Juraj Slafkovsky (MTL - LW): It wasn't my plan to grab the whole first line of the Habs but both players were at the top of my list here. Suzuki should be an 80 point player which is great value in round 9 and Slaf could rise to the mid-60s with a decent cross categories coverage. So Go Habs!

    11. (124) Connor Ingram (UTA - G): Wasn't intending to pick Ingram but he felt like the top G on the board, better than the few G who went before him so I thought I'd take him and feel like my G were a completed task unless some crazy value occurred later in the draft.

    12. (141) Jeremy Lauzon (NSH - D): Betting on his status as a unicorn. He only provides hit but at such a surplus value that he's definitely worth it. Could lead me to the top of that category for sure.

    13. (148) Tyler Toffoli (SJ - LW,RW): Top line dual-eligibility winger. He usually does well on poor teams when he's relied upon. I can see 30 goals and 250 shots with a bad +/-.

    14. (165) Evgeni Malkin (PIT - C): Mehhhhh, the first pick I didn't quite like but I was looking for more offense and he felt like the top option on the board.

    15. (172) Jeff Skinner (EDM - LW): I'm hoping he gets to play with McDavid and gets back to 30 or more goals and over 210 shots.

    16. (189) Martin Pospisil (CGY - C,RW): Needed some RW and didn't like the offensive options (wanted Guenther here!). Let's take the RW who might record the most hits.

    17. (196) Darnell Nurse (EDM - D): Some low-key offense coupled with a strong +/-, high shot volume and hits. Decent as a 3rd D.

    18. (213) Logan Cooley (UTA - C): Looking for upside here. Might not be in my lineup the whole year but I know he could explode on Utah's second line.

    19. (220) Cam York (PHI - D): Top PP D in the 19th round. Hoping Michkov breathes life into that Flyers PP.

    20. (237) Jonathan Huberdeau (CGY - C,LW): Who knows? I doubt a full rebound happens but he finished the year well so hopeful he grabs me assists when in the lineup as I was starting to trail a little there.

    21. (244) Jared Spurgeon (MIN - D): He feels under the radar as everyone is in on Faber. Spurgeon is a good D and was on the top PP before getting hurt last year. He'll have to earn it back but I like his chances to put up 35-45 points.

    22. (261) Matty Beniers (SEA - C): Sophomore slump, should rebound. He's still the top C on that team and will earn top PP minutes.

    23. (268) Arber Xhekaj (MTL - D): Hits and more hits but this spot will be probably be streamed most of the year.

    24. (285) Kiefer Sherwood (VAN - LW): Again with the hits and I think he's got sneaky offensive value.

    25. (292) Garnet Hathaway (PHI - RW): Just hits, lol

All in all, I feel confident. I hope Swayman signs soon and if he does, I feel confident in this team.

I think I did OK with my draft. I think my D could have been a bit better, I might be lacking one higher points producing D with a good category coverage. I am also missing a second clear no 1 goalie. If I'm lucky I should make it in the upper half of the league.
For some reason, early in the draft the picks were not showing up in the message sections, I could only base them on the thinning out of my list.

    Team: The Legend of Lebda

    1. (5) Leon Draisaitl (EDM – C,LW). I wasn't expecting him to slide to 5th. It was between him and Matthews. I might pay by a lower G and Shot total, but I expect Draisaitl back to 50ish G and over 110 points. We'll see.

    2. (20) Rasmus Dahlin (BUF – D). I wanted a D in the first 3 rounds. With Makar and Bouchard off the board, I wasn't sure if Dahlin or Josi would make it to my 3rd pick. I went with Dahlin as I prefer is peripherals and he might have room for growth point wise.

    3. (29) Mitch Marner (TOR – RW). With Crosby and Petterson off the board, I look at wingers Robertson is taken just before me so it's between Marner and Thompson. Really considered Thompson there, but got burned by early picks on "riskier" picks before (talking about you Stutzle ;-P) so I went with Marner. If he plays over 75 games, he'll be back to 90-100pts and 200ish shots.

    4. (44) Jacob Markstrom (NJD – G). With goalies flying off the board this is between Georgiev and Markstrom for me there. Georgiev is taken two picks before me. Markstrom was one of the last workhorse goalies left on the board. Being with the Devils, he should improve his amount of wins.

    5. (53) Adrian Kempe (LAK – C,RW). Guentzel, Barkov, Stutzle are all off the board. From the players on my list, Kempe is the one least likely to make it to the next round. Hopefully he scores 35-40G and over 80pts with 250ish shots and over 100 hits.

After 5 rounds, 2RW, 1C, 1D, 1G. Happy with that spread. Might have left some shots on the table, but I should be able to make up for it.

    6. (68) Jesper Bratt (NJD – LW,RW). In retrospect, maybe I should have gone Trocheck or Johnston… Should maintain or improve a little his points totals. Good amount of shots.

    7. (77) Clayton Keller (UTA – LW,RW). There I was aiming for a D, but McAvoy, Seider and Sergachev get picked one after another and I feel I can wait for my other targets. Keller should go back to 30-40 goals and over 200 shots. A bit light on hits thought.

    8. (92) Michael Matheson (MTL – D). Matheson is the only D left from my targets. If he stays healthy, he’s in for another repeat from last season I think. I don’t think Hutson eats much of his PP time this season.

    9. (101) Robert Thomas (STL – C). I wanted Marchessault or Suzuki, but they are picked the 2 picks before me. Thomas should be an 80 points player, potentially 90 points. Nothing to sneeze at just outside the 100th pick.

    10. (116) Bryan Rust (PIT – RW). Was really hoping for Hill or Kuemper here. 30G 30A potential with a decent number of shots, if he can stay healthy. Surprised to see one of my later rounds (12-14) target, Faulk taken in the 10th.

After 10 rounds, 2C, 4 wingers, 2D, 1G. At that point I usually like to have 3D, especially with 6D slots, but a lot of D were picked earlier than I expected.

    11. (125) Jared McCann (SEA – C,LW). There I am hoping Scheifele makes it to my pick, but he snatched 2 picks before. I go for McCann, I expect he at least goes back to his 70pts from 2years ago on an improving Seattle team.

    12. (140) Filip Hronek (VAN – D). Don’t love that pick. Ekholm, Toews, Letang and Faber were all taken. Panicked a bit and forgot that last season was the exception for Hronek. If he can get 35-40 points, he should still be serviceable with his shots and hits totals.

    13. (149) Tristan Jarry (PIT – G). Iffy pick for me as well. I was aiming for Daccord but he was taken 3 picks before. I settled for Jarry, hoping he keeps the #1 goalie position.

    14. (164) Neal Pionk (WPG – D). 30-35 points with 150 shots and over 200 hits.

    15. (173) Sam Bennett (FLO – C). 50ish point along with some hits.

    16. (188) Semyon Varlamov (NYI – G). With Sorokin’s injury early this season and his struggles last season, I’m hoping for more games with decent GAA.

    17. (197) Jacob Trouba (NYR – D). Again, a 30ish points D, that brings the hits and shots.

    18. (212) Pavel Zacha (BOS – C) Was looking at McTavish or Cozens, but they were snatched and forgot about Cooley and Schenn. Still, Zacha should be an OK bench player.

    19. (221) Matthew Knies (TOR – LW) Should improve on last season. Potential top 6. If he can get more playing time his hits total should reach near 200 and could flirt with 50 points.

    20. (236) Owen Power (BUF – D). A bit light on hits for a late round D, but should continue improve on his offensive numbers.

    21. (245) Jake Allen (NJD – G). NJ goalie handcuff. I expect NJ to do well this season along with their goalies. Allen is known to be a good 2nd goalie as long as he doesn’t play too many games in a row.

    22. (260) Jack Quinn (BUF – RW). Playing on the 1st PP during camp. Expected to improve his numbers this season. If it doesn’t pan out it will end up as a streaming spot. Side note: Zetterlund was a late
draft target (last 2 rounds), surprised he chosen a few picks before me.

    23. (269) Matt Roy (WHS – D). Needed a D on the bench. Not much left. Roy should provide decent number of hits, close 150 shots and not hurt in +/-.

    24. (284) Jake Neighbours (STL – LW,RW) Struggling to find potential value there. If Neighbours can reach 30ish goals again, improve assists a bit and maintain or improve is shots and hits, it will be a great pick there.

    25. (293) Trevor Zegras (ANA – C) Hoping last season was just an exception for him and he goes back to a 60ish points C, I’ll be happy with that.

Overall decent team. Better wingers than I usually have, but weaker D. I might have to work the waiver wire to reach the max GP for goalies. If some of my late round picks pan out I should be top 5.
