Draft strategy help

I play in a total points league. Points are worth 1 point. PPP’s are worth an extra point. We also select an NHL team first and that teams 2024-25 points are also included in total points. The player draft order is then in reverse order of the NHL team’s selected points from last year (if you select San Jose) you’d get first pick in player draft. I think I should pick NJ so I’ll get a fairly high draft position in player draft. But the injury to L Hughes, starting in Europe, give me pause. I think SJ is too much of a fall-off in points to ensure McDavid. Or should I just pick one of the best teams? I pick second for the NHL team. Thoughts?

I would aim for a team you think improved most and go from there. Maybe Anaheim? Maybe Utah? SJ plus mcdavid is intriguing but I’m not sure they got enough at back end to get many more points.
