Default Ty Emberson vs Jordan Harris

Deep 28 team league that uses NHL AAV and rosters 12F,6D and counts G, A, +/-, hits, blocked shots, takeaways, PK TOI, TOI, games played.

Who do you prefer, Ty Emberson (1yr at $950,000) or Jordan Harris (1yr at $1,400,000)?

I think Emberson has the better odds of having an impactful fantasy season

I love Harris as a player (both on and off the ice) but Emberson simply has more upside and plays for a better team. He should be able to carve himself a nice role in EDM and manage to scroung enough points in a top-shelf offense to be decent value.

In a vacuum, I prefer Emberson. However, he is also coming into Edmonton under rather favorable conditions; the Oilers trade specifically targeted him probably because he has a very positive history with the head coach. He will be given every opportunity to carve out his niche on the Oilers back end and he will be asked to play a hard nose shut down game which most definitely plays to his strength IMO. Arguably he comes into Edmonton with a defined role. On the other hand, I'm not sure where Harris fits in on the Blue Jackets back end and worst-case scenario, perhaps he doesn't. Harris seems to be in limbo, it appears that he is not a highly accomplished offensive defenseman nor is he is a shut down, hard to play against, banger kind of defensemen either. As far as I can tell, Harris's role with the Blue Jackets is up in the air. They are both very young still, so we'll see, but for now it's Emberson for me.

Harris is the definition of a low-event player. When he's on the ice, nothing great happens but usually nothing bad either. And that can be valuable as a steady presence on a 3rd pair. But fantasy-wise, he's barely relevant.

    I like that descriptor, a low-event player.

Thanks. Won't take credit, I saw it on an Athletic article from Scott Wheeler and liked it.

I used 30 words or more to say, or tried to say, what Wheeler nailed with three. Maybe that's why the dude is a writer with the Athletic and I'm just a reader (:
