Default Imagined : Askarov to Utah

Utah is an up and coming team and just missing a blue chip prospect Goalie

Nsh outside of Molendyk is thin on D prospects.

What about something like Simashev, Hrabel and a 3rd for Askarov?

I don’t see it. I still think Chicago and San Jose make a lot more sense than Utah. I also think Nashville is going to want established NHLers or draft picks, which theoretically have more value at the deadline than prospects.

Edmonton isnt biting. They dont have the assets to pull of that type of trade today and they are happy with the progression of Skinner. LA maybe seeing as the only solid G prospect with any real shot at this point is Portillo and I am not really sold on him.

I do agree with rataylor22 though that San Jose would makes sense. They have next to nothing in their pipeline. Chicago to a lesser extent. They have a couple young kids coming up who could be legit. Commesso at 21yo is probably only a couple years out if he keeps progressing and Gajan is still a long way out, but at least he's in the system.

I spit my coffee out reading that...

it seems like the person is never traded to a team that makes sense to us. Watch him be traded to Pittsburgh.

If Nashville could get Simashev for Askarov straight up they should take it. Highly doubt they would get that entire package.

I still think Montreal have the assets to get him. On a plus side also, Askarov is not in the same conference.

Columbus makes a lot of sense and they have a number of prospects that Nashville might find interesting.

I agree with others that San Jose seems to make the most sense. I wonder if Trotz waits to see how the Johansen situation plays out before making any moves. Granlund will likely be moved as a rental at some point this season and if Johansen's dead cap comes off the Preds books they could try to get him back as part of any deal. Also, I didn't realise Nashville had nearly $12M in dead cap this season. Sheesh

He’s going to the devils. The devils have drafted too many dmen and while they have maelstrom and daws getting askarov would allow them to keep markstrom for another year. Askarov sits in minors for the season and gets calls ups here and there. Next year he is backup to markstrom and year after they split starts. By 2027 he is the starter. Maybe halfway through 2026.

The devils will have to add I’m sure but they can afford to lose Casey and whatever they need to add. Maybe it’s just daws

Devils have Allen and Daws - Askarov wants out because he wants no part of the AHL. So how could this work?

He also doesn't see any future in Nashville as a starter due to the extension signed by Saros or a backup role due to the 2yr deal signed by Wedgewood. There COULD be a future here and he MAY be willing to go to the AHL if he knows there's actually a door opening for a role in the NHL in less than 8 years.

Thats the only way I'd see him willing to to go NJ.

I think, and this is simply an assumption on my part, he's willing to go to the AHL if he knows there's actually an opportunity coming in the not to distant future for a NHL career. He's probably just tired of waiting in NSH and they've rubbed him the wrong way now so he's just looking for a different organization to give him a chance.
