Re: 2024 DobberHockey Fantasy Football League Tier II
Prep consisted of reading a few articles a while back for my BestBall slow draft, and being regulary on fantasypros, the best website for fantasy football.
Mostly followed their Tier list + my own twist on the strategy I wanted to use.
Like Zero G in hockey, I like the Zero RB or Hero RB approach in fantasy. But this league had only 2 WR, so I hoped to be more in a Hero RB approach than Zero RB.
1. (7) Amon-Ra St. Brown (Det - WR)
The usual Pick 1.7 I believe. The guy I knew I'd have.
2. (14) Saquon Barkley (Phi - RB)
For a minute there I though Gibbs or Taylor would make it, but got picked just before. Taylor was my target as he has a different BYE, but at this point, I'd take Barkley before Bye week troubles.
3. (27) Nico Collins (Hou - WR)
Had London, then Collins then Olave in the queue, and they stayed there long enough for two of them to make it to my pick.
4. (34) Jaylen Waddle (Mia - WR)
Important for me to go 3x WR before RB2. Waddle is a favorite of fantasypros experts. Happy he was there at 34th.
5. (47) Mark Andrews (Bal - TE)
Meh. Tough decisions here as a 2nd RB would have been more logical. In a 3WR + Flex league, it was another WR here, but had to look elsewhere. Next RB was James Connor and I thought I'd snag him in 6th round. Andrews or McBride to lock in a position I dislike, then Richardson or Stroud as QB felt like they could slide. Probably my toughest strategic decision of the draft.
6. (54) C.J. Stroud (Hou - QB)
Richardson picked just ahead, and no RB taken in between I felt like I couldn't pass on a Stroud + Collins combo. Strong consideration for Malik Nabers who fell hard in our draft. But again, I was happy with my 3 WR, so I passed on him.
7. (67) Najee Harris (Pit - RB)
Need to add RB depth now and hope one of them pays off. Not a fan of Harris.
8. (74) Zamir White (LV - RB)
And not a fan of White. Let's hope!
9. (87) Diontae Johnson (Car - WR)
Insane value pick at this point. Panthers will be bad, but he's Young's best option by a mile.
10. (94) Brock Bowers (LV - TE)
I don't like having a backup TE, especially since I drafted Andrews already, but Bowers could be insane value at this pick.
11. (107) Chase Brown (Cin - RB)
Not a fan of Yahoo's next RB options and Brown has had a solid camp. Some experts think he can Achane his way into relevance very quickly. Like this flyer. He's been on my queue for 3 rounds and didn't want to get burnt by waiting one more round.
12. (114) Brian Thomas Jr. (Jax - WR)
Final pick before closing on backup QB, DEF and K. Usually the backup TE if needed. Shakir was on my queue, and then added Hollywood Brown who got picked just before. I'll be honest, I have no idea who this guy is. I just know he's a rookie with upside. First drop if needed.
13. (127) Caleb Williams (Chi - QB)
I rather have a backup QB just in case, as it can dry up quickly on the WW. Also Williams *could* be a star on his rookie season.
14. (134) Cincinnati (Cin - DEF)
They'll play my (sadly) lowly Patriots Week 1. Should be a rewarding matchup for them. Will stream for the upcoming weeks.
15. (147) Evan McPherson (Cin - K)
Same. I'll stream kickers if needed, but McPherson has been relevant earlier in his career.
Yahoo doesn't like my draft (good news), and I like it. Still not sure about this Andrews pick, but the way things shaped up, it was OK. Maybe Waddle could have been RB 2, and then I grab Nabers as WR3 later, but I couldn't know at that moment.
Have a great season everybody!
