Default Top 3 Favorite Baseball Players OAT

Jays suck so watching baseball has become stale down the stretch so I figured, looking at some of the other threads on favorite players and GOATs etc, why not ask the question about baseball.

Who are you top 3 favorite baseball players of all time?

    Mine:

    1. Reggie Jackson - the straw that stirs the drink
    2. Carlos Delgado - Absolute beast
    3. Fred McGriff - Crime Dog!

    How about you?

My favorite player was Mickey Tettleton. I liked that he had this bizarre batting stance, and that when he was at bat you'd have no clue he was a catcher.

Next, as someone from Massachusetts, would have to be Pedro Martinez. He was this rail thin weed, but when he put all he had into his pitches, it was as if he was superhuman. It also helped that he was a happy go lucky guy.

The third one is tougher. I feel like picking another Red Sox player would be too easy. Probably Mariano Rivera because I can respect greatness, and I'm not sure there way anyone as dominant as he was for as long as he was.

Larry Walker, one of only two Canadians in Cooperstown, Feguson Jenkins being the other. Walker did an awful lot for baseball in Canada as the Canadian face of the Expos. 1997 National League MVP; a 17-year career with countless accomplishments. Not bad for a boy from BC.

Nolan Ryan, "The Ryan Express." Well never be sure because of the technological limitations back in the 70's but many believe Ryan threw fire at over 108 MPH. To this day nobody has thrown that fast and he did it 50 years ago. He dominated like few pitchers ever did and the hitters all knew what was coming but they couldn't do anything about it.

David "Big Papi" Ortiz. 6' 3" and 230 lbs. Not your typical ball player. I loved to watch this guy hit. He also enjoyed playing the game like few other players, he had a big grin on his face more often than not, I wonder if Ortiz had any influence on the Jays Vladimir Guererro in that respect? Big Papi couldn't run the bases so good, no problem, just hammer them out of the park which he did 541 times.

I'm a local Baseball fan so:

    Jose Bautista
    Josh Donaldson (Jays 2-3 seasons)
    Bryce Harper

They all have the same "mean mug intensity" that I love in baseball. Same reason I like Scherzer.

This is a pretty cool idea, wonder who you got it from? Lmao I had to, I just can't help it. Anyway... you wanted 3, and I got 'em for ya!

    1. Joe DiMaggio - Being Italian, this was a guy I heard about from almost the day I was born. I don't have many heroes, but he's one of them. The man did it all (including serving his country in the middle of a hall of fame career)! Check his stats out, they will floor you! And I'll say it right now... The 56 game hitting streak is the best record in all of baseball!

    2. Pete Rose - Nobody played the game with more heart. I was knocking my helmet off, and sliding head first in little league cuz I wanted to be just like Charlie Hustle. He's got the most hits ever, you gotta put him in the Hall (I feel like they're just waiting for him to die. Like, that's his punishment. He gets in, he just doesn't get to know it)!

    3. Josh Hamilton - Who doesn't love a good redemption story? Straight up inspiring man, and yeah... In the end, his demons may have got the best of him, but that happens to alot of us. That's what makes us human. Guys, nobody's perfect, and we'll always wonder what could have been, but alteast we got to see a glimpse of it. I hope he's doing better now.

Think I'm older than most here (77) and my heroes are from my boyhood so they are likely older too.

Mickey Mantle...NYY. Should mention I'm Canadian, loved baseball and the Yankees were far away my favourite team. My Mom used to let me skip school and listen to Yankee World Series games on the radio. Thanks Mom.

Hank Aaron (Milwaukee Braves) and Roberto Clemente. (Pirates) We lived in Northern Ont and had relatives in Oshawa area. We often visited them and frequently went through the States. Dad scheduled a stay for a night in Milwaukee. Just so happened the Pirates were in town. Went to the game. Got right field seats. And there they were in right field, right in front of us!!!!. Aaron and Clemente. So exciting for a little kid to see. Braves had guys like Spahn, Burdette, Crandal, Adcock, Covington, Mathews. Pirates had Dr Strangeglove Dick Stuart, Mazeroski, Groat, Thomas, Virden.
Willy Mays may actually be a little ahead of Clemente but he wasn't right there in front of me.
Great time to be be a kid.
SOME POOL RULES. 20F 5D. Points are (G-1, A-1). At this time Count the 20 best scorers on our team and we are allowed just1 move a month for injury or to replace underperforming player. 1. Chipper Jones. I've been a Braves fan since I was a kid. I used to copy Chipper's batting stance and even the way he wore his socks. And I played 3rd base.
    2. Pedro Martinez. I'm originally from Montreal. Such a fun pitcher to watch, and what a classy move giving a shout out to Montreal after he won the world series in 2004.
    3. Seattle Ken Griffey Jr. Before he moved to Cincinnati and injuries destroyed what should have been his march to Hank Aaron's HR record, he was the most exciting player in the league on both sides of the field. The sweetest swing, and great defensively.

Looks like most guys here have Pedro on their list.

I'm surprised you don't play fantasy baseball (or do you?). Lots of players to root for and games to watch even if your real-life team sucks.

I’m from Mtl too. Love Pedro, and Guerrero (and Rusty Staub way before him) was a gem, but my all-time favorite is Warren Cromartie.

Vladdy would probably be a distant 4th on my list. It was real hard to be an Expos fan once he arrived. Fire sale after fire sale. I was already fully into the Braves by then.
