1.7 Artyom Levshunov D Chicago: I traded down from pick 6 to 7 which allowed me to move up in the 2nd and 3rd round. This was a very good trade since I was torn between Lev and Iginla at 6OA. I would have taken Lindstrom at 6 if he was there. The team I traded with went with Catton so I still had the decision between Lev and Iginla but I ultimately chose to go with the best Dman in the draft. Since this league includes hits and blocks, I am hoping Artie provides some of those stats. I already have a lot of players that are point-producers without much grit so getting more multi-cat prospects was a goal of mine.

2.12 Beckett Sennecke RW Anaheim: Easy pick and the last of a tier for me. When I made the trade to move down, I thought I would get either Dickinson or Yakemchuk at 12 but both were taken. I gladly drafted Sennecke who has crazy-high upside and could be a top line, point/game power forward.

3.23 Michael Brandsegg-Nygard RW Detroit: Another easy pick considering the banger stats in this league. I tried moving up for MBN and he was on my short list when I had pick 16. Some analysts are very high on his potential in addition to his high floor. Hope they are right.

3.26 Igor Chernyshov LW San Jose: Didn’t love this pick and considered trading it. Was the highest consensus player left excluding Jiricek who I don’t love for fantasy.

3.29 Axel Sandin Pellika D Detroit: The owner of this player didn’t properly roster ASP so he was lost and I could draft him. When I noticed the mistake I selected him which is in our rules. Obviously, this is ridiculous value and puts my draft over the top.

4.36 Yegor Surin RW Nashville: Toolsy, bruising forward that could be a valuable power forward if he hits. Boom or bust, high ceiling, low floor player. Love making this kind of pick later in drafts. Plus, his contract runs till 2026 so I won’t have to roster him for 2 years so I’ll get more time to decide if I’ll keep him.

5.44 Nikita Artamonov RW Carolina: Traded up for Artamonov by swapping a 4th and 5th in 2025 which I think is a fine price to pay. Artamonov was the consensus #25 ranked pick and like Surin, has crazy high upside and would be a star if he hits his ceiling. Like Surin, his contract runs till 2026 so he’ll have time to marinade before deciding on rostering him.

6.56 Kirill Zarubin G Calgary: Russian goalie who was the #1 goalie for HockeyProspects.com. I don’t know who those fellas are but according to their podcast they have optimism and all these technical reasons why Zarubin is ranked as their #1 goalie in this draft. With pick 56, that’s good enough for me.

Overall, I think I crushed it with this draft. I added a high amount of upside, skill, and grit. Trading down in the first round greatly improved the quality of my 2nd and 3rd round picks. Getting ASP is a value outlier which greatly improved the overall amount of talent this draft added to my squad. Ended up with a lot of Russians which wasn’t necessarily a goal.

For league in signature. (Draft took place Sunday before NHL draft)

Couple of notes about league: Most of these guys tend to favor Dmen over forwards if the skill level is comparable. They also have a history of just taking every goalie that's eligible. There was one guy that seemed to be drawing names out of a hat... you'll probably spot his picks pretty quickly. There were also a couple of "auto-draft" picks at the end as a couple of people bailed before it was over. We just give them whoever is the next available player on THNs list.

Couple of notes about my picks:
First round went well. Sennecke was my target
Second round I lost my train of thought: Hage was my primary target and after that I had a list of 4 or 5 names I was considering but I felt compelled to pick a dman (weakest farm position) even though I wasn't in love any of them. I swung for the guy that will either make me look like a genius or a fool. Connelly was probably objectively the best value at that point.
Third round: I was aiming for Miettinen here so I'm happy with this pick, my short list was drying up pretty quickly. Fischer felt like a safe pick.
    4th round: No picks
5th round: I swung on an D+1 with big potential

Sennecke or Catton is a good one. Catton's value is highest in a league like yours. I've read multiple people very, very high on Sennecke and exactly in line with him being the 3rd pick overall. Hage is a good pick too. I probably would have gone Connelly instead of the D but he could easily flame out due to his reported toxic personality. Not really sure about the rest of your guys. Good luck.

I think I got caught up doing too much research and I started focusing in on the potential risks of alot of the higher upside players. That showed up in the way I drafted, which leaned heavily towards guys with projectable physical attributes.

Alot of good value in those late picks.

I see Hage is getting a situational post-draft boost, also have noticed that Dickinson tends to be the faller out of the 1st round dmen.

This is crazy to me. Dickinson has decent offensive upside especially within no one in front of him in SJ

This is harnessable information for people that haven't drafted yet. You can probably leverage a pick in the "Hage range" to get Dickinson plus and look pretty good on the other side of it.

What it tells you is that there isn’t lots of star power in this draft outside of top few and there is lots of parity
