Believe the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers have the framework of a trade in place as well, though this one may go closer to the Draft.

Wasn't there a Chychrun-Flyers rumour a while back? No idea if this is to do with that, just the first name that came to mind.

I saw this & commented on twitter.
I think it may be a "blockbuster".
    Speculating/guessing:
To OTT: Travis Konecny (1 year to UFA). Konecny has ties to Ottawa.
To PHI: Jacob Chychrun (1 year to UFA). Chychrun's dad was with PHI for 4-5 years. And Chychrun has incredible re-trade value given his $4.6m cap hit this year.
Chychrun IS - possibly, the type of D PHI might want long-term. A Pronger-ish type. If they got lucky and can develop York(L)/Drysdale(R)... then you've got two oD kids there... and two vet o/dD in Sanheim(L)/Chychrun(L) to pair with them.
The dad's time in PHI - means there is some "comfort" passed down in Jeff spending years in the city area.

I think Chychrun is the better "asset" for trade value.
But I think Konecny is the guy more likely to possible "sign" with the team he's traded to.

    This is just my speculation...
But both these teams - would know - at this point - whether the player is in their long-term plans.

I don't think OTT has the $$$ to sign Chychrun... and it doesn't make sense given they have $8m to similar bigger/younger oD in Chabot, Sanderson.
I don't think Konecny - with a wife (who I believe is Canadian - possibly OTT or CGY ties) & two kids - sees PHI as a long-term place he wants to raise his family.
Konecny is from London and played his junior hockey with Ottawa. I can't find enough intel on him - but possible he met his wife there.
She has early-dating Instagram with TK at "Parliament Hill" - if somebody goes and checks her past photos. She references "being back"... and a friend that is "sad I missed you"... so I'm guessing she is from there.

Again... this is my personal guess on a trade.

    Giroux's $6.5m contract ends 2025.
That's when a new contract for Konecny would kick in.
Chychrun's $4.5m would clear too (if he goes other way in trade).
That's $11m in cap space opening for 2025-26.

Konecny's wife (long-time gf) is named Karly. form.Karly Girard.
Instagram suggests she has twin sister - who is in Calgary.
    https://www.instagram.com/karlykonecny/?hl=en
"Calgary/Philadelphia" listed - so I wonder if the tie is to Calgary (not Ottawa).

The twin sister is now a "Sutter".
I wonder if she, too, married into hockey-family. (?!?)

[again - this is my own speculation. But I'm a firm believer - the very talented CDN hockey guys - some want the $$$ - some just want to take the family back to Canada. PHI management surely knows where(ever) he stands.]
[fwiw - I got the Giroux UFA signing to OTT spot-on. Family for him too. Konecny, obv, watched it all unfold.]

Thought I saw konceny believed next contract could be in the $10m a year range. Could Ottawa make that work??

If all is to be believed we might see a bigger jump next offseason in cap so we could see close to that $10m in extra cap between this offseason and next to fit it but who knows

I agree that a Konecny/Chychrun deal is a win-win for both teams. As already mentioned by Pengwin7, Chychrun is the more valuable asset on paper but the reality is that a small market team like Ottawa often needs to consider whether a player wants to sign with them long-term. Konecny seems like someone who would sign long-term, and I also think he's got the right mix of skill and grit to go along with Tkachuk, Stutzle, and Giroux. Even though I'm not a Sens fan, I live in Ottawa and have a soft spot for the team. I really like their roster and think one of these years they will put it all together and make a nice playoff run.

I also think that Chychrun will thrive in Philly. He's an extremely talented player. With Michkov arriving soon, I REALLY like Chychrun's fantasy value to explode with the Flyers.

There are also rumours out their that Scott Laughton might be part of a trade to Ottawa.

It will be interesting to see what all shakes out in this one.

    Idea:

    Laughton
    Konecny
    Pick 12

    For Chychrun
    Pick 7
    4th round pick in 2025

PHI fans on the internet LOVE pumping the shit out of Laughton trade-value.
I don't see it. He's OK. He's a Henrique. Some CUP-questing team could find real value out of him as a 4th line center that has OK+ hands/skill.
He can *spot fill* up the lineup as high as C2. He can even be a Bozak-ian C1 in a pinch.
But he's as much as "C3" as there is in the NHL... and if you are a serious playoff team, you use him as a C4.
He's a vanilla, OK+ hands, good+ hockey IQ, solid vet two-way center. Laughton.
This is basically PAR (imo) for a 20th overall first round pick. Scott Laughton.
He's... like getting JG Pageau back.
Two more UFA years at $3m... probably a $4-$4.5m guy... you do get a few million in banked "value".

But I can't come around to OTT wanting to part with their #7 and going back to the #12.
    That's a BIG leap.

For me, off the board in top11:
    All 6D (incl. Yakemchuk)
And 5 dynamic forwards in Mack, Demidov, Lindstrom, Iginla, Catton

I think that top11 is nice.
I have a lot of doubts slipping into #12 - if the 6D and forward go as I have them...
    Helenius/Eiserman/Sennecke range...
I don't see EITHER Ottawa or Philadelphia being SUPER excited about those forwards.

Both teams have a nice stock of forwards - these guys - for me - are just similar versions of what they have.

[This SAID... maybe... maybe the trade is happening BECAUSE Philadelphia wants to ensure a certain D-man at #7... knowing the tier may close at 10/11... I think it will... this is a major tier drop-off this year...]

OTT, IMO, would be crazy to down-grade to PHI's #12.
But PHI fans are pumping the shit out of that on twitter.
No chance, IMO - but we'll see.

The way I *could see it...
If PHI is able to sign/trade Konecny - and OTT knows they are getting a long-term player at cap-hit THEY approve...
    Then yes.

    Konecny-SIGNED + Laughton
    for
    Chychrun

    That might get the pick-swap.
(But the Konecny extension would have to be *somehow* in principal, because - like Slavin - he can't officially show that until July1.)

This could, too, just be moderate-pieces in play.
PHI had rumours swirling of going after Pinto and/or Joseph last year.
I'm not really sure what OTT could like off the PHI roster... maybe Zamula - if PHI is getting Chychrun.

    IDK.

Based on the "leak" - I do feel like this will be a "bigger" trade... rather than "small".

P7 mentioned Pinto... and I wonder if there's a component of Pinto and Couturier involved?

Couts clearly out of favour with Torts but if the $ work, he'd be coming back 'home-ish' too IIRC (think he was out of the Q?)

If OTT thinks Pinto is asking for too much (thought I read that somewhere at some point) and Norris' injury is still problematic - I could see OTT wanting a guy like Couts.

Yeah - Couts is/was clearly miffed with Torts.
But... I can't see any intelligent GM wanting Couturier's contract. That player/contract is "negative" value - IMO.
(Love Couts the man... but not his game, not right now.)
Too much doubt. That's a major cap-clog for a lot of teams, OTT-incl.

    Couturier would, probably, do it.
I don't think OTT would do it... unless PHI gave up extra (picks) - just to get contract off-roster.
And I can't see PHI parting with picks.

Fun Fact: Both Couturier & Konecny have houses in the same 'burb: Haddonfield, New Jersey.... about 10min apart... per googlemaps.
Couts bought his in 2020 (& 2023), Konecny in 2021.

FWIW, adding more of my thoughts based on the last few comments...

    - Pinto is a great, under-rated player. Ottawa would be silly to trade him but I could see that happening given the off-ice issues with him. Might be time for a change for both parties. Still, Ottawa will lose on that deal because I honestly think Pinto's on-ice value exceeds his trade value right now.
    - Couturier is almost the opposite of Pinto, imo. His trade value is likely higher than his on-ice value. Leadership/veteran experience, intangibles, faceoffs, two-way play. I could see other teams taking a chance on him, but I don't ever see him living up to that contract.

I'm going to guess the Sens move Chychrun+Korpisalo to Philly for nothing really surprising. Then they acquire Ullmark.

It makes no real sense for the Flyers to acquire ANOTHER goalie, but with the reports that Ottawa wants Ullmark, there's no reason to have Korp+Ullmark making as much as they will in 2025-26.

Flyers have like $75,601,428 cap hit between their dead cap, retained salary, 13F, 4D, 2G. They acquire Chychrun+Korp that adds $8,600,000 for a total of $84,201,428 then bury Ersson for a cap total of $83,051,428. That doesn't include Risto, including Risto would have a cap hit of $88,151,428 (Cap Ceiling is $88,000,000).

So maybe there's some salary retention in some moves, send down a guy whatever. But if there's actually a push by Ottawa to get Ullmark, I can't see why they'd keep Korp (who has a 10team no trade list).

But it's also the Sens and they could think that doubling down on investing in their goaltending is the right way to go.
