The players complained about adding more players at the drop of a hat (NHLPA) because if they’re not playing they’ll be at the beach in Mexico or golfing in California and don’t want a bunch of call ups happening. So they said pick the team and that’s it.

If I'm Canada I'm starting Binnington again.

Unless he completely shits the bed, you pretty much have to pick a goalie and stick with him in a short tourney like this.

If I am Canada I am starting Hill and hoping he plays well to help remove "some" doubt. If you put Binnington back in and he has another so-so game, then you're almost forced to go to Hill in a do-or-die game. This way both have had a chance to play in the tournament and you can decide from there which one you want to go with.

Considering the choices they have made to this point with their goaltending, I have zero faith that they will make the right decision either way.

    It gotta be Binnington.

What’s important is not how he started, but how he finished. He had some butterflies early on and let in some shaky ones yes, but he was magnificent in OT. You have to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he will build on the confidence.

It would be silly to start over with Hill especially with the US on deck.

Missed the game last night. How was the quality? As intense as the Canada game?

Not as fast a game initially but that was the Finns MO. Clog the neutral zone and stay high. The US took 2 periods to start playing like a team. They also did hit two posts in the first (Nelson and Matthews). The US needs to scratch Hannifin or Fox. Both were noticeably behind the pace of the game. Canada/US is going to be intense as is US/Sweden. Having seen all four teams now Finland is noticeably less skilled. The other three are dynamic.

    Right.
That was kind of a hard game for Binny. Took half the first period just to receive his first shot. All that time sitting there cold, feeling the pressure.

I truly hope the Panthers aren't seeing the Tkachuk brothers together and get any ideas. They are a menace together.

    The Great One

Default Re: Four Nations Faceoff 2025

I was at the game on Wednesday with my 13-year old son. The atmosphere was unreal. I've been to lots of exciting games...playoff games, World Cup of Hockey games and saw Canada lose to the US in back-to-back games in Montreal...but that game was something special. There were so many highlights, from the crowd cheering for Mario to the OT winner, and I'm so happy my son got to experience that live. McDavid, Crosby, Mackinnon, Makar, and Reinhart...the power play only lasted a few seconds but that must be the greatest power play in the history of hockey.

Canada has some weaknesses for sure (most notably Binnington), but for a first game it couldn't have gone much better, and that's with McDavid and Makar being mostly ineffectual. You know that won't last.

Watching live is a different experience for many reasons...often I couldn't tell who was on the ice so I can't speak to which lines/players struggled. At times we were incredibly dominant, whipping the puck around the ice with ease as though Canada was playing San Jose or something, and other times we looked disjointed and confused. I trust the coaching staff and players to adjust as the tournament progresses.

Konecny was playing D at practice today in Makar's spot because Makar is sick.
