Sure, he'll make that much in San Jose, Anaheim, and Columbus... How fun is it playing for money when you're on a bottom feeder? Let's check in with Huberdeau & Gaudreau...

Necas is on a team that's just got its real contention window opening. I see him accepting slightly less in a bridge deal to stay put. On a shorter contract because he will be able to sign for more in 2 years once they win a cup and he's a UFA, if he wants.
Previous (rough) calculations I've done put the NHL per point dollar amount around $110000 per point. Necas' 53 points = $5.83m valuation.

    I'm guessing he's 2 years @ $5.25m - he won't do better (and probably $750k-$1m less) for 1 year in arbitration.
He'll be free and clear (if he wants) at age 27 for a 8 year deal taking him to age 35 at $7-$7.5m aav.
Fun part there - Burns & Orlov contracts expire end of '24-'25, so they'll have money to keep him for his whole career by offering an extension.

I don't see him moving - it's Jake that leaves.
They gave up Bunting - who they didn't want anyway - and a 2nd for the rental.
    Jake's 77 points - at $110000 = $8.47m valuation - he turned down $8.5m...
Ok ok: he only played 67 games, adjusted it's 94 points and $10.34m - but at 29 he's likely to start a downward trend - $8.5 aav for 8 years is $12m now and removing $1m every year for the duration. HE TURNED THAT DOWN (in Pittsburgh).

With Jake already being a UFA (and probably with a toe in the waters of free agency already) - I think there would need to be a heck of a deal for a great prospect (like top 20 player of those under 23 y/o, signed under $2m) to move Necas & then they can try to sign Guentzel.

Can't say I watch all 'Canes games but I do watch a fair number. And of those that I see, Necas regularly looks like the most dangerous forward out there this side of Aho -- and with plenty of room for continued growth too.

Would be something if he became a cap casualty and Carolina ends up dealing him.

Necas is VERY noticeable on offense. He's crafty.
His overall game is not good though.
(For people that poo-poo +/-... don't forget... these guys all play with the same teammates, against the same opponents... within-team +/- comparison is a solid use of the stat.)

Carolina has the most interesting team +/- sort of this past NHL regular season.
    +34 Aho
    +23 Jarvis
    +21 Slavin
    +19 Burns

    ....
    ....
    ....
huge Grand Canyon sized gap with most of the players
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    -7 Tony DeAngelo
    -9 Martin Necas (****)
    -14 Jordan Staal (****)
    -15 Michael Bunting

Now... Staal... at least - takes hard defensive-matching assignments.
    Bunting got traded out.
TonyD - well, I've ragged on his two-way game enough... and it shows.

So that leaves us with Necas.
    It's a tell.
***And - one might think that Staal-Necas were linemates dragging each other to shitty +/-... they were NOT. Those guys put up their negative with different linemates!!!***
[Staal-Necas-Bunting DID play 10min together at even-strength... if one goes down the list... -3... in 10min... LOL... wonder what game(s) that was!!! #AntiChemistry]

Media outlets don't show the highlights of guys with shitty backchecking/marking/defensive-effort...
    But they exist.

In fairness, doesn't help that Necas' two main centers were Jack Drury and Kotka...
Necas can't possibly be a Brind'Amour fan with this sort of usage.
Then again... maybe Aho straight-up said to Rod ("I don't want to play with this slacker." It's possible... I've played with two-way centers that want no part of lining up with primadonna forwards...)

That 7 in 5 certainly doesnt hurt- good point! Did you catch some of the tournament- how did he look out there?

Ive always been intrigued by what the top guys in Carolina would look in another uniform just by the way they spread out icetime and offense over there. It works for them as a team but I really feel like it holds some of those guys back on an individual level. I feel like Aho, Svech and Necas would regularly have 10 more points on just about any other roster. Of the three I really think Necas is intriguing. By that I mean Aho basically is a superstar even with that type of usage so I think its safe to say hed only thrive with more. Some people have soured on AS but I have very little doubt hed pop on another team- heck he might pop on THIS team- haha!

Necas is sort of the William Nylander of the three to me. Im not making that comparison to imply hes going to start knocking out 100 point seasons. Im just saying they were both sort of third wheels, they both had to ply their trade in big chunks on L2, they both play very skilled but also skill-reliant, both tend towards the perimeter on nights when theyre not dialled in- and the reality is that both were not necessarily "sure things" along the way. 100 seems like a tall order- lol- but I could see meaningful improvement from Necas in anew uniform- a point per game? The odd 90 point season?

Great points and appreciate that video. I hadnt seen that +/- issue- thats concerning. I dont own him but I did have him on my short list of guys to target via trade next pre-season. Can he correct this or is this just a risk/detriment the team has to play around?
