Craig Button has said he's a bit like Jonathan Toews with a bit more offensive upside
I don’t know that player at all.
Which NHL superstar player Celebrini can be compare to ?

I don’t think he is a superstar…at least not in fantasy circles….. nice player but if he is a best player on any team I dont think they are going anywhere. Personally I see him as Barkov light

I think a better comparison might be hischier. Will he be a 100pt guy? Prob not but a more 2 way 70s guy with some upside into the 80s. Pretty safe pick though.
In a recent Athletic article, a scout is quoted as saying he's closer to Crosby than Hischier.
I'm not a scout or pour over video. I simply read what analysts write so take it for what it is. But a recent Athletic article said Celebrini is an average #1 pick over the last 10 years slotting closely behind Hughes. Pronman, who is a tough grader, ranks him above NHL-average in every category (this is quite rare) and says he has a high-end shot and stickhandling. He just put up 64 points in 36 games as a 17-year old in the NCAA against players primarily 3+ years older than him. Plus, he wasn't on some super line like Perrault, Smith, and Leonard. He did the heavy lifting. And lastly, while Toews' game was a little underwhelming over the last half of his career, he was a 200' beast and a possession-monster from about 2010 to 2013 and some people wondered if he was the best player in the league (I didn't think he was). So a more offensive Toews is a helluva player- top 20 in the league for sure! I think some of you guys are selling Celebrini a little short.

Bergeron wouldve been my second comparable besides hischier. I don’t think he will be as good as Barkov
Not sure a direct comparison is that helpful, more what tier - not a top tier ala Mcdavid, Mckinnon
but maybe second tier - Hughes, Barkov, Bedard, Eichel
He broke the NCAA record for most points - as a 17 year old (in significantly less games). He won the Hobey Baker - as one of the youngest college hockey players - Fantilli and Eichel were both among the oldest in their draft class.
It will be interesting to watch his career.

Yas! I read that too and while I don’t always agree with Button he really does have a knack with player comps sometimes! I see a few people writing about offensive upside- to be clear I think he has significantly MORE than Toews. I think the Toews reference is that he will be a leader, he’ll impact just about every facet of the game, he’ll push for cups, and he wont leave you wondering if he could have given more. THAT is rare and its worth noting. In terms of irl contibutions beyond fantasy- hes going to have a massive impact and San Jose has once again landed a guy who can lead their franchise on the ice, off the ice, and everywhere in between.
In terms of offensive upside? You can breathe out Celebrini owners- hes almost certainly in a different tier than Toews. Last year Fantilli had 65 points in 36 games in the NCAA and not only was he breaking records- this feat nearly pushed him into the conversation as to whether he was on par with a talent like Bedard. This year Celebrini had 64 in 38. Not quite as good but it’s a similar wheelhouse. Past the boxcar stats the narrative heading into the draft was that number one was probably Celebrinis to lose but it was close. Rather than keep an even keel or regress Macklin put up his best season to datel and quieted his critics in spectacular fashion.
I do wonder if his commitment towards playing a complete game hinders his production at times but you should be looking at a floor of a point per game here- with the odd 90+ season (similar to Hischier)- but he IS likely the topline center on his team so its possible he settles in at closer to a 90 point range with the odd 100 point season. Id give the ppg odds at maybe 65% and the 90+ odds at about 35%…
Not quite as good but it’s a similar wheelhouse??? Celebrini could be way better than Fantilli - he's born in 2006 and Fantilli was born in 2004, Fantilli is 20 months older, almost 2 years. What kinda numbers would Celebrini put in the NCAA in 2 years? I'm thinking a boat load more, but that's just my thoughts.

I thought I had read Tavares as the comparison, here or there....
Maybe it was Toews...
Yea- Im just referencing the NCAA production there- thats all I meant. I dont have him in the Fantilli tier- offensively anyways... Fantilli has a gamebreaking offensive quality to his playing style- he'll go around defenders with speed, he'll go around defenders with skill, or he'll go through them-lol! Celebrini is fantastic offensively but Im not sure he has the same toolbox that way- and a lot of his appeal is his commitment to playing a sound 200 foot game- which sometimes can mean a limitation on production. Hes a rare talent though- maybe he can elevate his offense past that- Im not sure its a given at this point though- just my opinion. In any case its possible- will be interesting to watch...
