Yuuuuuup that was my immediate thought too.
Another year, another Mark Stone LTIR report before the trade deadline. Vegas doing Chicago things again. I have never had a ruptured spleen, and I am sure it's unpleasant, but anyone laying bets on when he will be healed?

https://twitter.com/AlexOlney/status...80534714601785Sounds like #VGK Mark Stone is dealing with a lacerated spleen. Timeline is tough to pin down with an injury of that nature, but it’s obviously a significant one.
Can you explain?
February 14, 2022 - LTIR
February 21, 2023 - LTIR
February 22, 2024 - LTIR
Mark Stone is so unlucky!

I mean, if the report of a ruptured spleen is accurate (and I have to believe it is), that's a potentially life threatening injury. He'd be wise to take it slow with this one. And with a 3-12 week typical recovery time line, I'd be hard pressed to complain if he waited until the longer end of that range to come back to a physically grueling sport at the highest level.

Not to make light of what is clearly a scary injury, but I drafted Stone and Eichel in my one year league season and remember thinking "all I want is for both not to be out at the same time". So close.....

I hope you know it's tongue in cheek comments like I made.
Like 80% of the league isn't 100% healthy after game 2 of the year. If he's just healthy enough to play for game 75, why would you not sit him out for the next 7 games? I 100% get the concept. And it's a lacerated spleen, not an injury that they've put off surgery for until the times right (like Matt Murray and the Leafs).

Lacerated spleen is two of the most unsettling injury words I've ever read.
Yuck. Sounds terrible.
I have absolutely no experience or take on what this injury entails.
Best wishes to Stone.
First player I heard with this injury was Peter Forsberg. Damn serious injury. Of course it's Mark Stone. He and Kris Letang can one up each other at a future NHL alumni golf tournament with the variety of serious injuries/illnesses they suffered during their NHL careers.

Lacerated spleen. Almost regardless of its severity, the risk is that he gets hit again (yeah, 100% right?) before it’s fully healed. The team docs won’t//shouldn’t let him play until May. I’ve cared for several of these - one was a collegiate hockey player.
On the other hand, Charles Barkley ignored his doctors’ advice and was back playing basketball in a week. Different sport, but still….
And there you have it.
