The good thing about Calgary's situation is they do have assets on expiring contracts that are desirable. So they can be active in the trade market to get something.
The bad thing is, the guys they want to keep are expiring and the guys they want to get rid of are overpaid (Kadri, Hube, Coleman, Weegar, Markstrom).
So to trade a guy like Kadri you're retaining salary and getting a meh return right? I wouldn't say no to that approach if I'm Calgary. Retain $2-3m for 5.5yrs, Kadri then becomes a $4-5m 50-60pt center. His NMC makes it difficult to navigate though.
