Default Flames likely to trade some/most of their top pending UFAs

With the slow start to the Flames season, the team seems to have shifted from trying to re-sign a bunch of guys to potentially selling them off before the deadline. This was always known to be a possibility, but with the bad start it seems to be becoming an inevitability, barring a sudden resurgence.

    This group of players includes:
    Elias Lindholm
    Noah Hanifin
    Chris Tanev
Nikita Zadorov (who has requested a trade)

and could also include guys under contract like Dan Vladar or even Nazem Kadri who has just started to crop up in rumours.

they talked about it today on TSN: https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/insider-tradi...ness-1.2035825

The good thing about Calgary's situation is they do have assets on expiring contracts that are desirable. So they can be active in the trade market to get something.

The bad thing is, the guys they want to keep are expiring and the guys they want to get rid of are overpaid (Kadri, Hube, Coleman, Weegar, Markstrom).

So to trade a guy like Kadri you're retaining salary and getting a meh return right? I wouldn't say no to that approach if I'm Calgary. Retain $2-3m for 5.5yrs, Kadri then becomes a $4-5m 50-60pt center. His NMC makes it difficult to navigate though.

I don't think you can trade guys like Kadri and Hubby because of $$$. Weegar can be trade as a RHD.

They need to move Vladar to make room for Wolf, if they can't/won't move Markstrom.

The UFA's they should be able to get what looks like a good return for, but that have to avoid getting a Huberdeau style buy high return.
