Matthews or Makar?

Hi gang,

this is a followup to an earlier post.

12 team H2H
21 players (3C, 3LW, 3RW, 4D, 2G, 6 Bench)
G, A, PPP, SHP, GWG, FOW, +/-, SOG, PIM, HITS, BLKS
W, L, SV, SV%, GAA, SO

Max 4 keepers. Each keeper occupies the draft position they were most recently drafted in. So late round value is a high priority vs simply the best players. Max contract is for 3yrs before they automatically go back into the draft. We get a single "buyout" every 3 years to cancel an existing contract.

I have 2 keepers locked: Oettinger (15th round, 2yrs remaining) and Raymond (21st round, 2yrs remaining). I *could* drop Raymond to open up a 3 keeper spot, but it would count as my single "buyout" every 3 years.

Options for the other 2 (or 3) spots are Matthews (1st round), Nylander (5th), Pettersson (7th) or Bouchard (8th). Value for 1st rounders in our league is always questionable except for the truly elite. If I don't keep Matthews he will almost certainly get picked before I draft. That would likely leave Makar as the best option.

So my choice boils down to:

Matthews (1st) + Pettersson (7th) + whomever is available in the 8th round
Makar (1st) + Pettersson (7th) + Bouchard (8th)
Matthews (1st) + Petterson (7th) + Bouchard (8th) and I lose my buyout for the next 2 years.

Flip a coin. Not many can do what Makar can from the blue line but AM34 is also a beast. Pretty even imho

Hate to lose Matthews, he plays huge in this setup, but I gotta keep Bouchard in the 8th. So really, Makar + Bouchard for Matthews + 8th is the deal. Seems reasonable. How many more years of keeping Bouchard in the 8th?

Bouchard & Petterson are your keeps. You simply don't keep 1st round costs in these sorts of leagues unless you have no real good value to keep.

Thanks all. Went with Bouch and Petey. It's conceivable Matthews could still fall to me in the draft but I don't expect it. Makar would be the "worst" available.
