    Default Keeper decision

Hi everyone, 10 team, keep 15 points only league.

Need to choose 15 keepers. Here are my "locks":
    Jack Hughes
    Elias Pettersson
    Tim Stutzle
    Johnny Gaudreau
    Alex Tuch
    Mark Scheifele
    Brad Marchand
    Mat Barzal
    Timo Meier
    Carter Verhaeghe

    Cale Makar
    Evan Bouchard

    Thatcher Demko

That's 13; need to pick 2 of the following:

Mats Zuccarello, Drake Batherson, Tomas Hertl
    Vince Dunn, Brent Burns
    Vitek Vanecek, Sergei Bobrovsky

I am missing my first and 3rd picks after going for the title last season. Missed by 20 pts (1220-1200) rip.

I know I will have to drop very good players but truly can't decide on who are the best picks. Thanks for your opinions!

Don't love your goalie options here so I'd throw them back.

Batherson is the most intriguing forward but not sure I want a 60-70 point forward over a 50-point defenseman.

    Give me Dunn and Burns.

I agree with this, points only I’d want Dunn and Burns

3rd vote for Dunn & Burns.
    Though Batherson is intriguing.

I like Batherson and Dunn in a 15-keeper.

Its between Dunn, Burns, and Vanecek for me. Depends how scarce goalies are, in a 10 team keep 15 I bet they are scarce.

This was my thinking. 2G league makes me think Vanecek is the keeper here. How are goalie points totaled?
Considering you're looking at top 140F, 40D and 20Gs, I think Vanecek is a a lock. Bob is even a consideration.

The two Dmen are my other options. In a points-only, I'm actually surprised to see Barzal listed as a "lock"

I'd take Burns, Dunn, and Vanecek and drop Barzal. He might get outscored by some of your other drops.
Then you can worry less about G and D and grab all the comparable Fs early.

Vanecek and Dunn for me...i prefer Hertl to Dunn but with this many keepers you need to consider some positions.

To me you need to have 2 goalies and probably try to draft 3rd quick. And you got so many good Fs that i would keep a D here.

I've had Barzal for years, just worried this is finally the year he shows his true self and has that 85 pt season.

Goalies are indeed scarce, top free agents are Skinner, Gustavsson, Korpisalo, Adin Hill, and I'm not picking till 18th overall.

I hear you. This is such a conservative league and all of us have had our hearts broken by holding guys waiting for that breakout only to have it happen for someone else. My own personal sad stories include Elias Lindholm, Sean Couturier most recently Travis Konecny who all had 70+ pt seasons after I dropped them.

I do appreciate the insight though. Maybe my league mates will let him slip to me at 18th.

It's not Barzal. It's the Isles. Besides Nelson's surprise 75 last year, nobody clears 65 it seems--been a long time that way.

And I'd argue there are too many guys similar to Barzal that will be sitting there for you when the time comes. But when you need two goalies and 4 dmen and you've got top 5-10 options in each, loyalty needs to go out the window.

Thanks everyone. I've been agonizing over this since the end of last season. Keeping 2 60+ Dmen does seem like the only smart option, and potentially dropping a "lock" for Vanecek so the bottom (D&G) portion of my lineup is set going into the draft.

I'll keep working the trade scene and see if I can't get a pick for Barzal before dropping him.

    Dunn and Vanacek for me.

    Vanacek Rationale:
it's a points pool - you care about Wins and Shut outs.
NJD will be a top 5 team and push 50+ wins as a team.
He should win as many games as Sorokin & Vasilevsky (due to the team around them) GAA SVPCT drops their value.
If Vanacek has 34 wins and 4 SO. who cares if his GAA is 3.35 and SVPCT is .902? NO ONE.

Also: this leave Schmid wide open to re-draft with a late mid-round pick. He's less attractive to everyone else if you own the primary half of the cuffs.

There will be lots of G options - LA, OTT, STL, SEA, ANH, immediately come to mind as full tandems likely available in the draft - but they're all bubble teams - AT BEST.

Lock in the top team in goal
