My picks are in BOLD. Cats in my signature. I was elated that Leonard fell to me at 8. I was convinced that Leonard would go 6 and Benson 7 which is where I felt a tier ended. I was going to trade back or take Dvorsky who I felt very good about but still didn't think he was in the class of Benson or Leonard. At picks 17 and 18 I was very pleased that Perreault was available. Before Perreault fell in the draft, I thought I might be taking him at #8 since I love his intelligent playmaking game so to get him at 17 was a gift. I considered Danielson and Yager at pick 18 but felt that Wood could be a homerun pick if he improves his skating. Danielson and Yager were likely safer picks but I always lean upside. Sawchyn and Lardis at 48 and 58 were upside picks. EPRinkside had Sawchyn at their 13th ranked player with a some crazy advanced stats from this past season so I was happy getting him at the end of the 5th round. Lardis also had some glowing reports so I thought I'd take a chance with a homer pick. The Russian goalie had the best model numbers according to Byron Bader for whatever that is worth. As long as he stays in Russia, I don't have to roster him so maybe in 5 years he comes over. 100% a lottery ticket.
Overall, I am very pleased with my draft. I traded Kubalik and my 4th round pick for pick #17 (Perreault) which is a huge win IMO. Kubalik is just a guy and he was on my short list of players to drop when the owner offered me the trade. I also traded pick #28 for a 2025 5th and Ryker Evans who I thought was a better bet than any D that was available at that spot. In hindsight I wish I had gotten a goalie before the last pick but I am good shape in goal at least for next season.

ALOT of goalies relatively early. I almost never draft goalies. The wait time combined with the unpredictability makes them poor investments in my eyes. I just wait until some NCAA or Euro goalie comes out of nowhere and snag them free. I could see it if there was an elite level contender like Askarov or Wallstedt but this goalie class was pretty middling imo.

16-team multi-cat dynasty, drafted post draft. Goals are worth slightly more than assists and D scoring is weighted heavier. A few surprises but nothing crazy in the results.

I'm pretty amazed so far at the parodoxical dynamic that the NHL draft created for Danielson and Cristall. Danielson should have been drafted later in the NHL but that bump seems to have had a real effect on fantasy valuation whereas with Cristall he WAS drafted much later than predicted but it has had no effect on his fantasy valuation.

I agree, it is interesting. I think Cristall is less impacted because he was always an upside play. Fantasy managers are more comfortable with the boom/bust risk than NHL GMs are. If he hits he's a fantasy stud, if he doesn't you drop him and move along.
In Danielson's case, the Red Wings are now pot-committed and have to do what they can do feed him a top six role. That alone bumps his value.
re: Cristall not falling in fantasy drafts after NHL draft.
Personally, I think some fantasy folk get attached to certain "prospect" people on the internet.
And they'll stay with that person's list.
And many persons... they're stubborn (we're all stubborn)... and too proud to shift.
I still see way too many people showing things like Benson's fancy rookie-camp loops and saying "Look at this guy".
And I'm thinking... that shit ain't gonna fly in regular training camp and DEFINITELY ain't gonna fly in real NHL game.
[FWIW - I don't dislike Benson... but I do think him going at 13th overall to Buffalo was a good spot for him. He's not a top 10 overall NHL talent. Fantasy-wise... IDK, I still have him 6-9 range, yeah.]
There's no way I'm touching a 40th overall forward in the top 20 of any fantasy draft.
Player data/knowledge/analytics are just so damn plentiful & good this year that I truly don't feel like there are many good players "dropping" past GMs/scouts.
The sources I like don't put Cristall & Perron anywhere near a top 20 of NHL talent.
People cherry-pick their data... so to give an example would be me doing the same...
But... say 2015 draft... I read so many people loving smaller/fancier Jeremy Bracco-types (USNTDP) who went 61st overall versus bigger/vanilla-types like Roope Hintz, who went 49th overall.
The WHL had its inaugural full-year draft... existing players mixed with prospect.
Bracco went 494th overall (21st round of 24 picks).
Hintz went 776th overall (33rd round of 24 picks).
I mean... I'm all for people holding with their amateur internet prospect ranks... forward-heavy... fancy small-player heavy...
Bracco-away!
[Peng... are you comparing Andrew Cristall to Jeremy Bracco? Yes, yes I am. Read the article above. I mean, he had great everything, great A1, comparable to Lucas Wallmark - not bad... eh.]
think GMs are targeting the Stankovens and Debrincats when the are taking a 40th overall in top 20 - both ranked around 21 in the dobber rankings - swing for the fence
I don't regret taking Stank at 20 in 2021- in hindsight i should have taken Wyatt but at least I didn't take Lysell. and definitely glad I didn't take Boucher who went at 10OA.
I do have some regrets though - Gunler comes mind!!
