Who is Scott Laughton?

Ive never played dynasty leagues before so I can’t say I’ve ever been in a league with Scott Laughton owned.

But now I’m in dynasty and did well in year one. But to say I know why Scott Laughton had a great year and if he can repeat it is another.

I’m shopping Nic Roy in my league and an offer just came in. My Roy, 1st in ‘26, 2nd in ‘25 for Laughton and a 3rd in ‘24.

Laughton got 1.04 FPts/game. Roy got 0.81 FPts/game. They both make the same AAV for the next 3 years. Dobber’s guide did not predict Laughton would be better than Roy last season, so where did this come from and is it sustainable/the norm?

Since a question was asked that I can absolutely answer, I will answer it.

First off, Laughton is a valuable guy to have on your NHL team:he can play center, he can play wing. He plays decent or better defensive hockey, and can kill penalties, but also has some offensive talent. He also hits, is generally over 50% at faceoffs, and even blocks some shots.

He is not the sort of guy you want to deal a first round pick to get, but is absolutely a useful guy in fantasy hockey, especially a deep cap league.

This year's production isn't likely fully sustainable, but there are reasons for it, much of which boil down to a lack of Giroux & Couturier:

1. He has 11 career PP points, 9 are from this year. The power play usage is very much a recent development to this extent.
2. He took a career high number of faceoffs. His percentage was down, but that's to be a bit expected.
3. The driver of all of this is a career high time on ice.

I feel like Torts is figuring out whom he can trust, and whom he wants to give more minutes to. Couturier, if he comes back, will be a guy who Torts can trust, because he's an elite defensive forward. However, there are more moves to come from the Flyers.
