Default No Winter Classic If You Live in Canada

This is particularly unfair given that Canadians are much more likely to be physically able to tolerate freezing their asses off while watching an entire outdoor hockey game in the middle of winter.
this has nothing to do with anything

I don\'t understand why canadians are crying so bad over this. I mean I am sure you can buy your tickets on ebay at some point. Other than that, you don\'t live in the states so to me it\'s only common sense that you don\'t get first dibs on the tickets. It\'s pretty silly to think that Americans won\'t fill the seats. Do you guys think Americans will cry about this if they couldn\'t get tickets to the next Canadian winter classic?

My mom always said that you can\'t have everything that you want. So let it go and enjoy the game on tv, and wait till it comes back to Canada.

It\'s just people venting a little. I think we all agree that the they tried to make the system fair, but it is flawed. If it wasn\'t flawed, Bill Daly and the NHl wouldn\'t try to fix it. Which they are.

So vent away, my Canadian brethren! B)

are you serious? you do understand the type of weather that NFL fans (Bears, Packers, Patriots, Steelers, Bills, etc) endure on a regular basis do you not?

Americans are very familiar with harsh weather during sports games.

As i just saw on TSN, the NHL has stepped in and will be creating a new loettery style contest for canadians only starting sometime next week.

They did this after a canadian was denied tickets after entering the existing contest.

So there we go, us Canadians will be reping the great white north at this years winter classic. Rightfully so.

I think this all proves a point. There needs to be a Winter Classic Weekend. One game in the US with one game in Canada. Do it on a Saturday and Sunday or on both days back to back. If I couldn\'t get to the game it would be sweet to watch them both on TV. I wanted to go this year but with a new born coming I decided to use my credits for the All Star game.

Canada would always have sweet matchups (maybe have it on Hockey Day in Canada).

Everyone wins and it would be a kick ass event!

That\'s a great idea... have a toronto/montreal or toronto/ottawa game in canada and have a chicago/boston or boston/new york rangers or detroit/chicago game here in the U.S.

I think that\'s actually quite a tremendous idea...

And because it\'s such a good idea I wouldn\'t bank on the NHL coming anywhere close to adopting it

I agree with the NHL idea statement.

Montreal wanted to host an outdoor game this year but they were told no.

Imagine a TO vs Habs in their 100 year celebration. I would walk there in my boxers from Kamloops to watch it.

the concern in montreal is that there is nowhere large enough to hold the event outdoors.

The Olympic stadium can be modified to remove the roof.

Also the McGIll stadium hold 25,000+ for CFL games. That means it can easily fold 35,000+ for an outdoor game.

I know most outdoor games hold 50,000 but if there were more than 1 game a year that would not be necessary.

There is no way they would hold it in the Olympic Stadium - the building is barely safe as it is, imagine with a full crowd and a rink in it? The risk is too great.

McGill MIGHT work, but it doesn\'t seat 25,000. It seats 20,000 in its current configuration. I don\'t see how you could add another 15,000 temporary seats, but MAYBE you could. There was talk of using the Guzzo stadium too, but it isn\'t big enough either.

Just use my backyard - I have six patio chairs, two benches that each seat three, a hammock and four lawn chairs. I can easily bring out a few kitchen chairs, too!
