    Default Marner Trade (REP)

Team and League settings in sig.

Unconventional cap league and trying to move out one of my more expensive contracts before I'm forced to do something and take a discount.

League is goal-centric and looking for long-term stability here.

    The deal currently on the table is;

Marner for J. Quinn, Drysdale, and 6th overall in the entry draft.

Seems relatively close in a vacuum given the league environment, the question is: How secure is this exchange long-term?

    Things to keep in mind:

    1. Quinn and Drysdale will be on ELCs for a bit longer and will have very affordable contracts for the next 3-4 years
    2. PP defensemen are hard to come by and very valuable in this league
    3. Marner was top 15 in fantasy points this past season

Do Quinn, Drysdale, and whoever I can get at 6 compensate enough for the loss? My first thought was probably not but there's definitely upside where it does.

I don't think this is enough. Not totally against the idea of moving him, but I think you should shop him aggressively and tell them you won't move him unless it's really worth it for you.

My gut feeling is that you can do better. I love Drysdale, Quinn has promise, and maybe you'll nail the 6th OA pick, but for a talent like Marner, I'd want the best asset coming back to me to be more valuable than Drysdale. If all three assets "hit" then you win, of course. But I'd rather put Marner out on the public block before committing to this.

Agreeing with everyone else. Put him on the block, and see what comes in.

The exchange of a current asset for futures is always insecure, no matter how sure fire the prospects are, assuming the current asset is a solid asset. If you're dealing somebody on their last legs that still has value (Fleury for example last season) then it doesn't matter how secure the futures are , because the current asset is barely an asset.

I'm not in favour. I get your rationale but I think you can do better. I'm actually surprised you're not trying to get rid of Karlsson. You would only get a good not great return but he'd solve your cap problem. If you feel you have to move Marner as he'd be your best potential for a great return, it has to be for a better return than what you're being offered.
    Team 1:
J Hughes, Cooley (r), Bratt, Laine, M Tkachuk, Necas, A Svechnikov, S Jarvis, M Michkov (r), W Johnston, Zegras, Giroux, Norris, Couturier, B Jenner, T Krug, Burns, M Weegar, Werenski, Sergachev, B Clarke (r), Theodore, Sorokin , Oettinger, Askarov (r), Ersson
    12 teams, No salary cap
Keep 14 plus 4 rookies (under 150 GP) max 18 players
    Scoring: G (1), A (1), +/- (0.25), H (0.1), B(0.1), PIM (0.1), SOG (0.1), GWG (1), PPP (1), SHP (1),

Karlsson is someone else I'm looking to move but no one is buying on the EK100 story yet. Also, due to league cap system and him missing the majority of several years he's actually on an affordable contract but this is the last year of said contract.

I would want more than that.

    McDavid/Necas/ Kucherov/Bjorkstrand/Rust/Nugent Hopkins/Cirelli/Zegras/- Letang/Morrissey/Dahlin - Swayman/Saros/Skinner

    Prospects include:
    McTavish/Clarke/Bordeleau
    Dumais/Korchinski/Hutson

Don't worry I'm not going to say anything more than I have to. If that.

That is not even close to enough in my opinion.

I already scrapped the discussion. I was going to ask for more but OGM didn't seem amenable to that idea.

I see that that this question has mostly been resolved, but to add another thought here I traded Marner in my 32-team cap league last year for Bratt and Robert Thomas (Before any extensions). So yes, I think you could have gotten more value here if you did go with a deal of that framework though, I would have been looking at keeping Quinn and trying to flip Drysdale + 6OA for a young productive player like Seth Jarvis or Noah Dobson, for example.
