He's won AHL coach of the yr with the Hershey Bears (Caps AHL team) in 2020. They def know him, and he left Washington for an NHL job with the Leafs knowing it's a great location to jump from AHL coach to NHL assistant coach to NHL Head Coach.

This isn't a sacrificial lamb hire. It's a new voice for NHLers, but comfortable hire.

Yeah, I wasn't questioning his credentials so much as the team's intentions. They don't have alot left, so chances are he's either going to go down with the ship or they're planning on entering a rebuild phase at the end of which they will probably bring in someone else.

For him and the Caps to have any success they need a healthy year from John Carlson. They really missed him on the PP and normal 5v5. We will see how he (Carbery) gets along with Ovy (PP wise) since everything goes through #8.
