I have not but yeah Type O is really tough to match up against in the gloom category. Fun fact: Johnny Kelly was my neighbor down the street growing up.

Love it boys..fade to black very sad…

I’m going to propose a country alternative actually 2- Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley and He didn’t have to be by Brad paisley.

Snuff is nice by slipknot..never really listened to x1x - liked their extreme me stuff more….not that they’re extreme.
    I don't really listen to X1X either...

You can add One - Metallica to the list too

I will have to check out Type O Negative - "Love You To Death"

Daddy by Korn is a pretty 'heavy' (subject matter) song.
Lonely Day by System of a Down

Some other mentions (not metal) that hit me:
    Adams Song - Blink 182
    Hurt - Johnny Cash
    Suicidal Thoughts - Biggie Smalls

With one more song I will keep under wraps for now.

in a way all of the very heavy stuff is sad but not in your usuall "sad song way"....so instead of going sad song, ill go heavy song. This is also my favorite death metal song of all times...and by far best band imo.

Oh I knew Daddy was going to make its presence here it is literally a tear jerker…and Belexus nice I love death metal. Morbid angel usually blasphemes too much for my liking but they were really heavy. I love Napalm Death seen them 5 times 4 in Edmonton and 1 in Baltimore. Love the heavy music biz.

Here's two I'll add to the mix:

Metal category: Cemetery Gates - Pantera

Non-metal category: Lover, You Should've Come Over - Jeff Buckley

The latter is one of my favorite songs of all time. Simply incredible lyrics and imagery.

i went to many concerts in early to mid 90s in Toronto...i never liked Napalm Death but some of my favorite bands were: Morbid Angle, Death, Anathema, My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Vader, Entombed, Unleashed, Obituary.... i could never get in to pure speed and scream like Napalm Death, Canibal Corpse or Deicide

On a bit lighter note i grew up with first 4 albums of Metalica, Sepultura and Slayer

Funny (or purposely) that you would use tear jerker to describe it... as Korn also has a song called tearjerker :P

Love most of these bands…tell me you saw Death before Chuck’s passing? I seen the Death tribute show which was truly incredible but to see them with Chuck would’ve been downright fantastic.

Did you ever listen to Death Strike? They were a precursor to Death.

Going to Maryland Death Fest was truly one of the funnest events I’ve been to. So many bands that would never come to Edmonton. Seen YOB, Winter, Bloodbath among many many other bands.

To invictus haha no I did not intend that but nice catch haha. I have shed tears to that song it’s very powerful emotionally. I personally don’t like their song tear jerker haha.

I never seen Death live but if i did it would be before he passed...i was trending away from that music i would say after 1997 or so...when u completely submerge yourself in that kind of music it either completely inhales you or it spits you out after a while...latter happened to me..but i was hard core for about 8-9 years.

ill take your word for the tribute which im sure was amazing but Chuck was "Death" just about every album was recorded with different people, he was the only constant. Amazing musician.

no i never listened to Death Strike....

From Bands i listed above i never seen Metalica (i did hear them life at exhibition place in Toronto while i was at Ontario place few weeks after i landed in Canada), Death, Unleashed (went twice to their concert, once in Poland once in Canada and both times they didnt show up.). But i seen other bands and i also seen many of those listed more than once....Obituary and Paride Lost opening for Mrobid Angel was my favorite concert.

    Slippin’ Away - Hypocrisy

    Filled with anguish and confusion
    Realise the nonsense of existin'
    Stuck... to a meaningless life
And no change for the better

    Send a kiss from jail
Can this a dream bless me now?
    To undo the pain
    My soul will slip on...

Don't tell me 'bury the pain'
As I bury the knife in my body
    Slowly slipping away
    To another dimension

My soul is drifting away in vain
A man greets me on the other side
    'Welcome to hell'
    Here it's my turn
    Send a kiss from tomorrow
    Endless dreams that we've held

Don't tell me 'bury the pain'
As I bury the knife in my body
    Slowly slipping away
    To another dimension

    Bury the pain
As I bury the knife in my body
    Slowly slipping away
    To another dimension

    Bury the pain
As I bury the knife in my body
    Slowly slipping away
    To another dimension
