Keepers Decisions

I honestly got bored of my team last yr and tried to mix it up and made some poor trades but whatever, I felt like having a new roster.

We are moving to a banger league, and then in 2024-25 season we're adjusting keepers to "0-6". If I want to keep 1 I can, if I want to keep 3 I can and so on.

Who would you keep from my roster?
I'm thinking:
Makar, Fox, Trouba, Meier, Batherson, and Zegras.

I also have 6th, 8th, 9th, 12th overall picks, with 3 2nd round, 3 3rd round, and 1 4th round picks (after keepers) as my whole draft.

I’m probably keeping Hintz over Batherson. I get it though with Batherson being a RW.

Hintz over Zegras maybe? I like Zegras, I just have a hard time imagining the Ducks are good enough for him to be worth the spot.

I don’t mind your initial choices, but would probably take Bouchard over Trouba. I think Bouch will go off next season.

I see an issue that so many of your best players are on defense. I could see an argument for Makar, Fox, Carlson and Bouchard all being among your keepers to say nothing of what Trouba offers as a banger.

I love the potential of Zegras, but he's not yet better than Hintz and he may be outscored by the first four defensemen I've listed above. Is there an appetite or an ability to trade prior to your draft? I'd pursue finding a balance to your roster before selecting keepers.


If no trades, here's who I am keeping:

No Doubt: Makar, Fox, Hintz, Meier

Likely: Bouchard, Carlson

In play: Zegras, Trouba

I like your initial thoughts as keepers.

I can definitely see the cases being made for Carlson/Bouchard but I prefer the dmen you are keeping just slightly.

Hintz over Batherson is also a valid argument and I very likely would lean that way myself but I think I’m the end they finish quite close to each other so go with your preference. Or just go D heavy and keep Bouchard over them then focus on drafting Forwards (and a goalie) early with all those picks.

No way I’m letting Zegras back into the draft, I think this is his true breakout year, hopefully Anaheim can get some talent to play with him

Thanks everyone for your answers, this is def the first yr in this league where I have many questions at keeper it seems and it's all pretty even, but also not stars lol.

I can do some trades, but I don't know if people will value guys like Trouba, Meier or Fox appropriately as it's the first yr most will be in a banger. I tried like hell to get B.Tkachuk during the yr last yr in anticipation for the banger league and the guy wouldn't bite though.

Given that it's a banger league, I think you've got an issue with D, but it's the weird of issue of having too many good ones, an inability to play them all at once, and far more questionable players elsewhere.

Options:
D: Bouchard, Carlson, Fox, Makar, Trouba
C: Hintz, Zegras(LW)
RW: Batherson

As I see it, you have 4 star D to choose from, and Bouchard. Trust me, Trouba is a star in this format - and one that helps deal with a points-heavy focus from your other D.

I'd look to deal Batherson & a D for help elsewhere, or a pick upgrade.

you are missing his best forward on your list....as great as Trouba is you need to be careful about high hit/block guys with low points when you call them stars...there are few forwards that fit that bill that you find way down the draft..

as for OP...i would Keep Hintz Meier, Fox, Zegras, Makar, ..last spot is between Trouba and Bouchard...if you think Bouchard can be 65+ D i probably stick with him. Otherwise take Trouba. Also remember that everything about Bouchard right now is a hype...he was not doing great to start season and exploded once Barrie was moved...is he going to keep it up? time will tell.
