So I put on the Yankees vs Giants baseball game on my second screen while working this morning. 11 of the first 12 outs were strikeouts. The only other out was a groundball to shortstop. Scratch that...12 of the first 13 outs are strikeouts. The Yankees' fielders don't have a put out yet.

It's a dominate start by Cole. But still 1 swing away from a tie game.

Imagine being the Yankees offensive side and have your starting getting 8ks in the first 9outs and only being up 1-0 because Judge smoked a HR? Yankees are pretty unbalanced.

Baseball is a cool and relaxing sport. I like it as a spectator event.

That said... it's kind of a joke that 49/52 players are pretty much just standing still on every pitch.
Even the "players on active field", you've got just the catcher, pitcher, batter (maybe a runner, and then the ball is in play every... 5 pitches... maybe).
As a sport... I think golfers are more active than baseball players. (Not more "fit"... but more "active" over their given event.)
Heck... bowlers probably do more action per minute of their "event" than baseball players.

Yeah... I stopped watching baseball as soon as I had kids.

I wonder what the steps taken a baseball player has outside of going to the dugouts. Like Judge had the most total bases (402) last yr. So 404bases x 90ft = 36,360ft, or 11.08km on the season.

So he ran 11km over 157games on his hits. He probably ran maybe half that defensively+groundouts+out on the base path, add 1,440ft for SB.

He probably ran a total of 11km+5km(Defensive+others)+0.4(SB)=16.4km on the season/157gp=0.104km/game

The game ended and both teams were struck out 16 times. 32 strikeouts in one game.

Soccer players can run 10km in a single game.

I agree with this statement. I thoroughly enjoy casually watching a baseball game, especially of a team I follow.
I can appreciate that it is not the most action packed sport. I regularly quote the Simpsons scene where the show is spoofing Vin Scully and the announcer explains that "tarp" is short for "tarpaulin"

    Because:
    1. It's a hilarious representation of watching baseball; and
    2. it taught me something, and knowledge is power.

Going to a ball game as something to do now and then is fun if it’s a good park. Never watch it on TV though, so boring!

It sucks because 2 studs were on the mound? I'm confused.

Baseball as entertainment depends heavily on what you want and where you are.

At the park, it's generally good, unless the park is very poorly run. For example, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is a don't visit again place for me, unless it becomes an affiliate of somebody other than the Yankees.

On radio, it's also usually good, but it'smore dependent on the broadcast team.

TV is it's worst format, I feel. It's not action packed, and you don't normally see the whole field where you can see positioning changes and the like if you're at the park. Also, some people like pitcher's duels, some people like home runs, others like balls in play. Personally, I like a balance, but the game changing to so many walks, strikeouts, and homers has been bad for the on-field product.

Funny thing is that pretty much all sports these days have bad ratios, just not baseball bad:

    Baseball: 10 (plus runners) /52
    Football: 44/106
Hockey: 12 (less penalties) /40 (dressed limit) 12/46 overall
Basketball: 10/26 (dressed limit) 10/30 overall

I feel the best way to watch baseball is definitely at the ballpark. Spent part of high school near Chicago in the late 60’s. A friend and I would occasionally take the train to see a White Sox game.
Tickets were inexpensive and always available. The Cubs were far too popular.
Finished high school early 70’s near San Francisco. A couple friends and I would go to Giants night games for something to do. Cheap seats and few sellouts.
It was a great way to pass time. Watch the game, chat and people watch. Good times.
I have no idea how much it cost to see a game nowadays.

I used to love baseball. For our 30th birthdays, a buddy and I went on an 11 night trip where we went to 10 MLB games in 10 days in 10 different parks. It was awesome.

The product that is MLB now is no longer the baseball that I love. I like small ball. I want to see balls in play, hit and runs, stolen bases (they are probably back now!), sac bunts, great baserunning. I hate the everyone swing for the fence or strike out mentally.
