Default Tkachuk Bros vs Hughes Bros

**NOT A FANTASY QUESTION, REAL LIFE**

Ok now that that's out of the way, here's my question for you.

You're the GM of an NHL team and you're building your team. You have the choice of building your team around either Matthew and Brady Tkachuk OR Jack Hughes and Quinn Hughes. I'm not including Luke because he's not in the NHL today.

Which set of brothers are you building your team around and why?

Good question. I usually stand with centers over wingers, but the Tkachuk's are something different.

I'd prolly go with the Tkachuk's as marketing would be so much fun with those two. As bad as it sounds, I think you can find multiple options that bring what J.Hughes brings, there's not many Tkachuk's out there.

If I am building a team I want to win the Stanley Cup - I would have to go with the Tkachuks.
The added element that they bring to the game goes a long ways in playoff matches.

Its hard to pass on Jack Hughes and his scoring upside.
I would absolutley love him as the #1 centre that I build a team around

But its the Quinn Hughes part of the equation that makes me place the Tkachuks over the Hughes.
Sure, Quinn is talented, but he is not the #1 D-man that I would like to build my team around.

Tkachuks are beastly. I’d definitely want them hands down. Even as an oilers fan who strongly disliked M. Tkachuk, he’s a guy you’d love to have on your team and Brady is cut of the same cloth. Physical, gritty, get under the other teams skin and can put up franchise player point totals they really are two guys who would be instrumental in a cup run. Love the Hughes bros so talented but I don’t know if they have what it takes to push a team to a cup.

Brady and Matthew easily. Talent and toughness are a great and rare combo.

Agreed. Plus I think you have a better chance of convincing them to take a hometown brother discount than the Hughes. I could see the latter duo leading forwards and defensemen in points....it's pretty hard to get a discount on players with that kind of output.

I think the Tkachuks are better built for playoff hockey, so they would be my choice!!
The Hughes brothers though are studs in their own right!!

All four are crazy talented, but the grit/drive/determination of the rough-and-tumble brand of hockey makes me choose the Chucky Brothers.

Yeah as much as I dislike them, I’d build around the Tkatchuk brothers.

Interesting replies and surprised no one likes the Hughes brothers here. If I had to build a team, I'd prefer to do it down the middle and the back end.

Personally, I'd take the Hughes brothers for that reason but I can appreciate why others like the Tkachuk brothers.

Hughes brothers. Skill and speed are what the NHL is all about now. I’m not finding a center with the best underlying numbers since Mario Lemieux just anywhere. I can find a net front guy with a bad attitude and decent hands anywhere. I can also find a D that compliments Q Hughes easily as well. I need a D who and can skate and pass the way Quinn can - very few of those around. Hughes bros for me and it’s not even remotely close.

It's the blueline component for me that pushes me to the Hughes side. I love the way those idiot Tkachuk Bros play, but with Jack's offensive ability combined with an uber skilled defenseman, I've got to lean towards the skill. You would want to surround them with complimentary players that can play when the NHL decides not to call the rules (a.k.a. the playoffs), sort of what Edmonton has done with Evander Kane and to a lesser extent Hyman (not a tough guy, but will go through walls).

Tkachuks and it's not really close for me, for a very simple reason. Since this is a dream NHL job question, I'm GM of the Flyers.

I think the rest of any explanation isn't needed.

I think I'm on the Tkachuk bandwagon as well. I just love the style they play. The downside is you are building around two wingers. Positionally it makes more sense to go with the Hughes bros, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

Jack is one of the top young C choices in the league to build around for sure but still ranks somewhere around 4 or 5. Quinn falls in the 7-10 range of top young D choices.

The Tkachuks are probably 4/5 ranked in young wingers to build around. So as a tandem I think that's who I go with

Are we convinced Quinn Hughes is a good defenseman or is it his offensive side outweighs the negatives on the defensive side? Genuine question, I haven't watched much of Vancouver this yr.
