JvR trade talks with DET fall apart; stays put

This is what happens when you wait until literally the last minute to do a deal of this magnitude. Fletcher is to blame but Yzerman holds blame here too. If he was truly interested in JVR, and needed to clear cap to get him, you can't start that process at the last minute. If he wanted him, you have to know this before the last minute and be better prepared. Blame goes all around for me.

...which is why I'd put greater blame on Fletcher. No one can find a reason for why Detroit would be interested. I see little reason other than Fletcher becoming desperate and Detroit ending up as a team which could use a veteran for a low price. Detroit will be fine without JVR. Flyers had greater reasons to trade him.

My wild guess is that he's a veteran who they think might fit moving forward and he might sign there cheaply if he likes it, and that they could get something else from Fletcher as well that they wanted.

When you see the stupidest GM (Fletcher) in the league is calling, you answer the damn phone.
