if you're def not going to keep Hedman I am for it.
I’m in 2nd and making a push for the championship (team in my signature). The other GM and I have been negotiating a bit and what we’ve gotten to is my Hedman + Addison for his Necas (C/RW) + Burns. He’s rebuilding and I’m looking to strengthen my C and RW for a hopefully deep run.
Hedman and Burns are performing the same in my scoring set up, so they are a bit of a wash. Hedman is younger so edge to him. Also not sure if Ghost chips into Burns production with the recent trade so that concerns me a bit. Hopefully Chychurn and Sandin are servicable backups. Tampa has a weird schedule in our 1st round, playing NJ 3 times that week, so Carolina might have the better matchups too.
Addison is a throw away for me. Not producing at all this year and my rookie keeper spot is already occupied. So I see this as a pretty good upgrade as Necas would help me immediately (I could drop O’Reilly, and then I’ve got much stronger depth at C and RW).
I tried to squeeze a pick upgrade out of the deal, but no luck.
What do you all think? None of these guys are keepers, although Necas is the most likely to fetch an 2 for 1 upgrade in an off-season trade. I’ve had Hedman on the block for a while, and there’s very little interest.
Alternatively, I could see if he has interest in Chychurn / Laine and add him in the deal for a draft pick. That might be a bit too much tinkering though.

yeah good gamble if you not keeping Hedman.
I still think he is by far best player in this deal and got sold 4-5 years left but again if he needs to go , take a swing i think this year Necas is big upgrade over Addison.

So final deal was Hedman, Addison, Chychurn & Laine for Necas, Burns and a 2023 1st round pick (I didn't have one as I traded it away to get Fox). I probably could have squeezed more out of the deal. But everyone on my side of the deal were non-keepers. Necas helps me now, is a possible outside keeper, has the highest trade value in the offseason, and I got a 1st back.

Thats a significant overpay. Will any of the players you traded become keepers for the other team? Will Oettinger still qualify as a prospect keeper? If not who is that going to be? Seems Addison might have been good there. I think you’ve hurt your chances for this year with this trade. Who are your adds to fill the holes left by a 4 for 2 trade?

yeah that is not a good deal...you asked for advise and once we said its good idea you doubled the return, maybe more than doubled (depends of what you think of line)...not a fan of this trade.
Chychrun and Laine is not worth 1st rounder unless its Bedard.

I hear you guys. I didn’t feel great after hitting accept and thinking about it some more. I justified it in my head because:
- No one involved is a keeper for me. So it was about either who can help me this year or can I convert them into something of value for next year (otherwise lose them for nothing).
- I’ve been trying to move Chychrun, Laine, Hedman, and Addison for most of this year. There was zero interest: Hedman too old and Serge starting to steal PP1, Laine being inconsistent Laine on a terrible team, Chychrun is a band aide boy with TBD deployment in Ottawa, and Addison isn’t helping anyone this year.
- Oettinger is my prospect keeper and can remain there for at least 2 more seasons which is my plan.
- Hedman and Burns are essentially a wash for ROS.
- Chychrun and Addison were my 6th and 7th defenders. I literally wasn’t playing them and they were taking up roster space.
- Necas is an improvement over Laine so I do feel that helps me this year.
- Getting a first helps me next year.
- Freeing up the two roster spots allowed me to activate Hischier and Makar from IR.
Still, I wish I had more options because it wasn’t as great of a return as I should have gotten for those players.
