As soon as the Orlov being held out news hit, it only made sense for Boston to pivot to making this deal. Who gives up a 1st and a 3rd for Gavrikov when Orlov is available. Holy hell, the Bruins are a wagon. Anything can happen but kind of makes the Leafs' trade for O'Reilly moot.

Wow what a deal for Boston.

But this makes me even more worried for the Wings. The Caps are in it and they're selling.

Getting Orlov is one thing but getting a gritty team first guy like Hathaway is genius on Sweeney’s part. I like it for the B’s who just got better and deeper.

Det, Pitt both have 3 games in hand and tied, 1 pt up.
Buffalo 2ptsh behind Wsh with 4 games in hand.

it's a very St.Louis type decision. cut losses and don't let anyone walk for free.

500k less than they retained on ROR. = 4th vs 5th round pick. There's no prospect going out from Minny on this so pretty close to a wash if you compare the two deals.

If ROR/Acciari was a bad deal & overpayment.... so is this.

A 2025 2nd rounder! Rare to see a pick that far away.

CBJ didn't want to take on salary, Arizona doesn't want to take on salary. I think it's not that Boston was done with the dance, I think teams were blocking Boston from getting better by having the asking price to take on salary really high from them. But Washington, in a unique (weird how it's "a" and not "an"?) situation where they can take on Smith and lie saying they're just re-tooling and use Smith to try to push this yr decided they could take on salary.

Plus moving out Orlov and Hathaway more than makes up the Smith contract (salary). Carlson is skating again last I heard.

Shrewed move by all squads here. Funny how just holding out guys long before the TDL hasn't worked out for CBJ and Arizona lol. But flip side is Meier having an injury now lol.
