Default Gavrikov headed to the Bruins?

Looks like a deal could be close if Boston can find a way to make the cap space work.

Vladislav Gavrikov Watch 2023 may be nearing the finish line. Per source, #CBJ & #NHLBruins have the framework of a trade in place (talk of a 1st/3rd in package), but Boston has to clear cap space. One player I'm told they're shopping is F Craig Smith. However... (1/2)
    https://twitter.com/TheFourthPeriod/...95665782882309

...#CBJ won't wait forever. It's understood that if another team swoops in with a competitive/better offer, they could go that route. Ball (or puck) is in Boston's court as they try to make the $ work. Adding Gavrikov could surely eliminate Boston from the Chychrun talk. (2/2)

If Boston pays a 1st and a 3rd for Gavrikov, they are out to lunch.

If anyone pays a 1st for Gavrikov they're out to lunch. Even if he re-signs for market value ($4-5m?) I think you're out to lunch.

The Bruins are a classless garbage organization. I’d love to see them over pay.

The Habs are a class organization with a lot of great history! I always respected and admired them. Gavrikov would be a good add but not at that supposed price!

I'd imagine part of the hang up on dumping Craig Smith is that while his cap hit is 3.1M his salary is actually 4.3M. On the other hand, Gavrikov's deal is similar at a 2.8M cap hit but a 4.2M salary.

Why Columbus can't, won't, or isn't simply taking back Smith in the deal and being thankful that they are extracting far more for Gavrikov than he warrants is beyond me.

Maybe Boston thinks they should be able to get something for Smith, or maybe they are trying to route him somewhere that isn't Columbus.

In any case, it doesn't make sense that Gavrikov is worth this much other than that he's the best rental D on the market so I guess what would normally cost a 2nd now costs and 1st and a 3rd. Good for Columbus if they can pull this off.

Columbus has had issues in the past about not having contracts insured and the player being hurt (Horton). So I wonder if they have some issues with their $28m on IR or LTIR. They might be paying more than normal for those guys, and they don't want to take on anymore salary this yr as much as possible.

Would line up why they don't want Mike Reilly too. He is set to make $4m next yr and his cap is $3m.

CBJ is like 11th in salary this yr. So I get why an owner might want to cut salary as much as possible this yr if you suck as much as they have.

The other notion is that CBJ is SERIOUS about turning around and flipping assets for Chychrun, which having a deadweight salary kicking around wouldn't help. And sure as hell Arizona isn't financial positioned to take on additional salary without incentive.

There was an article in the Athletic a few days ago that this was the biggest roadblock in a Chychrun deal. Arz. refusing to take on salary in return.
They want picks, prospects & ELC's.

Also probably why Boston has moved on from Chychrun to Gavrikov. They need to move salary for both, but they don't need to move a lot for Gavrikov.

Ya I meant Boston figured it is easier to move salary out in a separate deal to make Gavrikov work than it is to find a trade to move salary out to fit Chychrun.
