The upside in Bedard is too tremendous to pass on.
Even if he is a slow-rise, somebody will pay through the nose to get him... it will be a huge trade-haul.
There's always a few GMs in fantasy leagues that go ga-ga over elite prospects.
In a "partial keeper" (Keep 6F), you can basically upgrade the entire back-half of your team for Bedard in Jan or Feb NEXT YEAR.
And... if for some reason you go through terrible injuries, you can sell your good older players and build for a future year yourself when Bedard is even better.

Matthew Tkachuk is a very underrated scorer, I like him long-term over Marner.
There IS some "who knows" with both Matthews & Marner... Matthews could leave summer 2024.
I think TOR fans don't think it's possible... but I do. (We'll know more by mid-July next year, after a few weeks where he *could extend.)
Toronto simply ain't "all that" for some people. It wouldn't surprise me to see AM34 leave.
I think both his points and Marner's points drop if that happens... and it could.

[IF... Matthews does re-sign long term... and once Bedard's team (post NHL-lottery) is revealed... this thread would be good to revisit. If Bedard lands on CHI... I'm not so big on that... but if he lands on CBJ (w/Laine, Gaudreau, K.Johnson, Marchenko)... that's an incredible spot for him and I'd be taking him over a re-signed Matthews. So... 1.Bedard-CBJ, 2.Matthews-TOR, 3.Bedard-someOtherteams, 4.Matthews-OtherTeam, 5.Bedard-CHI.)
    This.

Bedard 1st for sure. Just remember, the draft year of Crosby, and McDavid, a lot didn’t listed them at no1 in that kind of fantasy draft, and talked about hype and everything.

It will be your only chance to get Bedard at a “good” price.

    (shaking head)

So Pengwin7 says "Bedard at #1"...
And OP decides "Bedard at #7"...
And then the awesome Rick Roos says "Bedard at #1"...
And OP thinks "Maybe I should have Bedard at #1"...

I'll just see myself out of this thread and all future threads asking advice by this OP...
    (holy friggin cow...)

Haha, I love ya Pengwin! You and your advice too. I’d pretty much settled on Bedard at 4th (after the big three) and am still leaning that way since I’m looking to compete right away. Just thought it was super cool to be chosen for a forum article and wanted to see if anyone else wanted to weigh in.
    12 Team Keep 6: G/A:1 W/SO:2
    C - McDavid, Matthews, Schiefele
    LW - Draisaitl, Fiala, Meier
    RW - Marner, Barzal, Zuccarello
D - Dahlin, Morrissey, Dunn, Matheson
    G - Skinner
B - Marchessault, Caufield, Teravainen, McCann, Montour, Jones, Saros

    12 Team Keep 10 (& 5 Minors)
    : G/A/OTL:1 W:2 SO:3
    '24 Picks (16 Rounds) - 1,1,1,1,1,2,2,3,3,3,5,5,6,6
F - McDavid, Rantanen, Point, Aho, Nylander, M. Tkachuk, Guentzel, MacKinnon, Pavelski, Duchene, Farabee, Henrique
D - Bouchard, Dobson, Matheson, Andersson, Letang
    G - Vasilevskiy, Markstrom
B - Joseph, Schenn, Nyqvist, Roslovic, Duclair, S. Jones, Korpisalo, Quick, Rittich
M - Cooley, Michkov, Rossi, Hutson, Mateychuk

I think Bedard right after the big 3 is the right move.

Slight update: due to some draft order rules I didn't fully know about/understand, it turns out I actually end up with the following picks: 3,4,5,6,9,10 (plus 16 & 18). So I've got a little bit of choice taken away from my original plan.

I still will be able to take the following for sure:

TWO of (whichever are left after the first two GM's pick): Tkachuk, Marner, Matthews, Bedard.

THEN for sure: Connor & Point

TWO of (whichever are left after the next two GM's pick): Aho, Saros & then... someone & someone? Barzal, DeBrincat, Hedman, Stamkos, Tavares, Chabot, Burns & Bobrovsky are all the options at that final slot.

How should I order that final list? After that 10th overall pick, I choose 16th & 18th as well.

In a keeper I'm taking Bedard first here. Matthews second, Marner third.

Tkachuk had a phenomenal year but I don't see him repeating and without multicat his strongest asset is neutralized.

Thanks! But now (with draft order finalized) I don't really need to decide - I just need to pick whoever is still there at 3rd & 4th. My NEW dilemma is how I order the following: Barzal, DeBrincat, Hedman, Stamkos, Tavares, Chabot, Burns & Bobrovsky. How would you order those guys in a points only for next season?

Oh damn, that sucks. That's a STEEP drop from the top tier lol

If it's next year only I'd take Stamkos then Tavares.

It's not too bad overall. I still get something like: Matthews, Marner, Connor, Point, Barzal & Tavares. Still definitely strong enough to make a big push for some wins in the next couple years!

Probably a good idea. Normally I stay away from guys in their 30's (especially in the 1st round), but since I'll already have a solid 10 keepers at that point I can afford to make some single-year choices.

Do we think those guys will still be a step above Barzal? I'm a bit tempted to choose him since I suspect he may have more trade value the following off-season. Hard to know though.

    Makes sense.

THEN for sure: Connor & Point
This makes no sense to me at all. Aho versus Point is close, and I lean Aho. However, I lean Saros over both of them by far. The next best goalie out there you list as Bobrovsky. That is a HUGE tier drop. Take Saros with one of those 2 picks.

Glad you brought up the Saros argument - where I want to place him in the draft order seems to be the most divisive. Our league starts two and it's weekly starts, so volume guys are definitely helpful. That being said, each year I seem to be able to pick up at least one goalie (as a free agent) who is a solid fit. I got Grubauer for free late in the year, and also picked up Levi & could bring him forward as a minor if I wanted.

That being said, a workhorse goalie on a good team is a nice asset. Do we think the Predators will be good enough for him to get lots of wins and shutouts in coming seasons? If so maybe I should pick him before Point. Tough calls.

Related question: is there anyone who thinks I should keep Devon Levi over one of my current minors as an insurance policy for Grubauer? Or that I should draft Saros over Point?
